| Maybe take the other dog from the room & cover top & 3 sides of his little crate to decrease his visuals & encourage the den/sleep response. Maybe if he will eat some, that on top of his pain medicine will then allow him to relax & let go. Decreasing his stimuli in the home with as little activity as possible helps. This is what I did with Tibbe - tented most of his crate. The rest of the time, I kept Tibbe in my lap & kept him quiet there. Wasn't hard. He was pretty loopy & after eating a few bites, he went to sleep.

| 7-10 days? Geez, that sounds like a long time for a neuter. I know Couver was groggy the day of the surgery, but wanted to play the very next day. I just tried to keep him from jumping and running, but otherwise let him be himself. I would suggest maybe separating them to keep him from wanting to play? Good luck, sounds like it's going to be a struggle to contain him.

| It was 7 days for Laddy too who is like yours a live wire. We had to keep him crated most of the time for the first couple days. I also kept him in a modified baby onesie that kept him from licking himself. Good luck.

| My male could only stand one day of peace and quiet. The day of the operation, he slept for the rest of the day and the next day, he was right as rain again. I couldn't keep him quiet and although I kept an eye on his stitches, I don't think they need to stay quiet for that long for such a small incision. I wouldn't take him for walks, but if it's been more than a day I'd let him out of the expen. Neutering is a really small operation.

| Dink did not rest for 7 days. we kept him from jumping up or down and carried him on walks, but he obviously felt great and energized by the 3rd day. Your situation is tougher because he could get himself in trouble playing with the other dogs! Hang in there. He is obviously healing fast so this won't last for long! |

| Brandi was back to her self the very next day. I just kept a close eye on her. I tried to keep her quiet but she wasn't having it. One thing I noticed was she did listen to her body when it was still sore. If she felt a little pain running up the stairs, she would slow down and walk upstairs. |

| They told us two weeks of 'do not let him out of his crate except to pee and poop' for a neuter. We thought that was excessive, so we kept him on a held leash for a week and a loose leash for the other week (I'm home about 20 hours a day.) He started getting frisky about day 4, so i WOULD play with him gently, for short times in a controlled manner-it was the only way he didn't go spastic, which i thought was worse. We did take him on a few walks the last few days. I figured that a quiet, controlled walk was better than crazy hyper laps around the house |

My furkids Donating Member | Sadie an Lillie were older than Bentley when I had them spayed, Sadie was 3 yrs old and Lillie was 2 yrs old. My vet uses sevoflourine which is a very gentle anesthesia...they were under longer than Bentley, for one being females and they also had teeth cleanings...Sadie seemed to be fine although she was a little sleepy...It affected Lillie a little more though...(Lillie is a lb smaller than Sadie) Lillie was VERY groggy...like you would have expected...now Bentley.......He is ready to take on the world! LOL...You wouldn't know he had anything done at all!! From the time I picked him up he was a wild man! I don't think the x pen is going to work for me...His incision looks great, he just ate a good breakfast, and I gave him his pain med...although he doesn't seem to be in pain, drinking, peeing, pooping...He LOVES to run and play with his sisters...who run after him too.....I think I will take your suggestions and seperate them for a few days...we have a big bedroom...maybe I will block him in there for a few days. thanks everybody for your suggestions

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | My vet always says let them do whatever they feel comfortable doing. Usually by the third day they are pretty much themselves. None of mine have overdone it and torn out stitches. I DID have a Chihuahua that had a tumor removed (yes, it WAS cancer...I miss my Foxman so much) that licked them out. My vet said it would be more stressful to put him under and restitch it and it would heal by itself which it did with the help of an antibiotic and time, with NO problems at all. Sounds horrible but he really was pretty much himself during the healing process which was pretty fast. Louise |
