Yorkie Talker | Sick Puppy - PLEASE HELP! Chewie is about two and a half months, he's going into his third puppy shot on June 12th. Yesterday, he started throwing up bright yellow bile (sometimes foamy, sometimes not). He was fine in the morning, pooping solid, eating being playful. I took him outside around 11 and I'm assuming he ate something in the backyard eg. grass, bugs. Ever since then he has been throwing up, going back to sleep and hasn't been as playful. Midnight, he woke up and ate a lot and didn't throw up. Then all of a sudden, he started throwing up again and began that process all over again (throw up, sleep ..etc). Is this normal? Should we let it pass through? Should we go see the Vet? What can we do for him, PLEASE HELP! |

Yorkie Talker | Thank you! We did try taking him to the Vet but they were BOOKED, so we're trying to wait it out and so far he's doing better. He ate a lot about ten minutes ago and is napping. Usually from what I experienced yesterday, he would nap then wake up to throwing up. So if he continues to throw up this afternoon, we will be going to another Vet in town. Again thank you! |

YT 1000 Club Member | So sorry to hear that Chewie is not feeling well. You definitely need to get him to the vet. Dehydration sets in quickly and he can worsen quickly. Sending prayers for Chewie to get better soon...

Yorkie Talker | Chewie I appreciate all the feedback, but I have to get this out there. Chewie is very well hydrated and fed. I've read that a main cause of vomiting is either not getting fed or eating too fast which isn't the case. I'm with him 24/7 and he eats normally (eaten about half a cup already today) and keeps himself hydrated throughout the day. |

If the dog/puppy has more than 2-3 episodes of vomiting and/or diarrhea within a few hours, they should be seen right away, don't wait the 24 hours. Also if there's blood and/or mucous visible, go to the vet right away. When you call the vet, and the receptionist says there are no appointments available, tell them it is an emergency and your pup needs to be seen right away. They should be able to work him in. If they say no, I'd be changing vets. If they say vomiting/diarrhea is not an emergency, remind them that this is a young puppy and it is an emergency. Dogs/puppies that just lay around or have increased sleep may have a fever. A temp over 102.5 needs to be monitored, and if it continues to rise, get him to the vet. A temp over 103.5 and rising can lead to the dog/puppy having seizures.

Two option just walk into the office with your baby and tell them he must be sceen. There are emergency vets that are really expensive $300 to walk in the door here. If you have a Petsmart the have a vet in the store and they have extended hours. I would call and see if they have an opening I have used them on the weekends and at night and have never been told they are booked. They charge 36$ for the exam here in NC then extra costs for meds | |

| I know you say he is hydrated, but you also have to worry about electrolyte balance. Is his little nose wet? Is he peeing the same amount? Just because he is eating and drinking he still isn't keeping it down and therefore may still have dehydration related issues |

| This IS an emergency and your puppy could possibly DIE if he doesn't get medical intervention. I almost lost my Luna when she was a puppy, vet said if I'd waited any longer she would not have made it. Call every vet until you find one that cares enough to see your baby NOW. Good luck!

| I know my Lucy got dehydrated in less than 24 hours and required sub q fluids. She had licked some tar off her feet and vomited repeatedly within a period of about 3 hours. Just because of her size - and the repeated vomiting - the ER vet advised she needed to be seen asap. They gave her a shot of something to help stop the vomiting and the sub q fluids. AND she was 2 years old and a healthy weight of 5 lbs. Imagine how much more quickly a young, smaller puppy will dehydrate. Please see a vet.

Yorkie Talker | Thank you! Thank you all for the feedback. Chewie is doing better now, it was definitely something he ate. He's eating, drinking, being playful and active once again. Everything seems to be back to normal again. We just decided not to take him out anymore until he gets his last puppy shots. Again thank you for the comments/concern! |
