I know my Lucy got dehydrated in less than 24 hours and required sub q fluids. She had licked some tar off her feet and vomited repeatedly within a period of about 3 hours.
Just because of her size - and the repeated vomiting - the ER vet advised she needed to be seen asap. They gave her a shot of something to help stop the vomiting and the sub q fluids.
AND she was 2 years old and a healthy weight of 5 lbs. Imagine how much more quickly a young, smaller puppy will dehydrate.
