I never did until my kids were gone. Adopting Lola from the rescue made me aware of the plight of puppy mill dogs. Soon, I was taking in fosters. I am not an animal hater or anything just not a fan of smells and other things that come with having any kind of animal in a house. We got her because I knew the boys would love having her and I have always said if I was going to have a dog, it would be a Yorkie. They are adorable.

Again, thank you to everyone for understanding and kind words!

yes i do understand.
I have family members that have never had animals .
It really is a big adjustment especially with children to take care of as well.
Yorkies are awesome.
I also have two other dogs and 2 cats so i know how much work they are.
Don't worry you will be fine.

Incidentally, my truth is different from yours. I consider my yorkie Tatiana family. It's mutual. As a pack animal, she sees me as part of her pack (and thus, I her). She loves me, and I love her back.

Yes, Tatiana is spoiled. She is spoiled sweet, not spoiled rotten. There is a difference. I can't begin to tell you how many people comment on how well behaved she is. That is because she is loved. Tatiana does not act out (because her needs are met as far as social, exercise, food, etc).

Well, I guess this my truth.
This is the same story for us too! Katie Scarlett is like my child, but then again, I do not have children of my own. She is the center of my world and goes everywhere we do. If she cannot go, she stays with family or at doggy daycare. She is never left alone, but that was our choice. I think whatever works best for you is great. I think that a Yorkie would be just fine as a family dog and not a lap dog. I know many Yorkies that are not pampered to the nine's like Katie Scarlett is...not in any way that it is a bad thing. We all have our different views and opinions, and that is great. As long as you love and take proper care of them, I think any dog would be so blessed and so happy. And I think it's great too that you can share your thoughts on YT. I love YT!

My skinchild is 20 and has wanted a dog FOREVER. I never wanted a dog. I have a weak stomach and didn't want to deal with potty accidents or vomiting. I don't like going into peoples houses and it reak of animals. The minute I saw Brutus something happened to me, I didn't take him home that day (he was offered to me for free as he is a mix) but couldn't stop thinking of him. Two days later he was dropped off at my work and he's been my little companion ever since.

I only put clothes on him for special occassions, don't have a stroller, don't take him everywhere I go, BUT he has a great life and a family that loves him dearly even when he is being a pain in the butt!

Thanks for your honesty.

We had a yorkie when the kids were young. He was a great dog but did not get the attention my dogs do now. With children your life is so busy. Seems like your running all the time. Boji was left alone each day as we went to work and school. Dh was able to get home and let him out during the day. He was a big part of the family. I had days feeling very bad for him. Thinking what kind of life is this for him. He did go on a few family vacations with us. Which we have great memories of. I do believe in my heart he had a good life and better then a lot of dogs. When we lost him at the age of 13 my dd said we lost our brother. Now that the kids are grown and I now have 3 inside dogs that are so spoiled. I am always worried about them and feel awful when they have to stay home alone more then an hour. I think you love your little one and feel the guilty of a busy family. Good luck on your choice and thanks for sharing your story

So I'm not the only one who feels that way? Hi everyone, newbie here. I have always had a dog in my life. Always. I grew up with a Black Lab. Loved him. Then it was a YorkiPoo, loved him as well. Now, I have my Yorkie, Teaka. I love Teaka, I really do. She is a great addition to my family, constant companion to my elderly parents. Part of me wishes I never got her though. However I can't picture my family without a dog. I should of done research on the Yorkie breed. I jumped into getting her withouth any prior knowledge and that is my own fault. I find her high maintence. Not has in clothes, diamond studded collars or anything like that. Just with her food issues, her skin allergy, her weight problem. She is straining me financially sometimes. I know I have to be more proactive when it comes to Teaka. I'm at work 9 hours out of the day. I come home and shes excited to see me. Her lil nub starts to wag. I look at her face and there is no way I could rehome her. Although I've thought about it and mentioned it.

I'm pretty sure Teaka is/will be my first and last Yorkie. She totally doesn't fit my lifestyle. I got her for my parents to be more active, its not working. So it has all come down on me. To take care of my parents, the dog, the house, my cat, and have a full time job.

I am the type of person to follow thought my committments though. Teaka is loved and she knows it. I will not give her up because she isn't what I expected. I will not rehome her because she has allergies. To make my life better, I am going to change myself for Teaka. It will be beneficial to both of us. Now that is love.

While your truth is not mine, I do not begrudge you for having a different opinion. It sounds like your pup is treated well and lives a good life.

I, on the other hand... view my two as family members and even as children. I am 25 years old, married with no children and treat my yorkies like my kids. They are also dogs, so they get to experience the life of a dog. They go to the dog park 4 times a week, go with us everywhere, ride in a Kwigy Bo, are fed the best food/treats, sleep with us in bed, have clothes to keep them warm, and are loved with every cell in my body.

I am not as extreme as many are on here with strollers, dresses and bows... But I also do not judge their love for their dogs. People view dogs differently, and as long as they are loved and treated well... I have no qualms
