This is nothing personal with anyone...it just seems to come up quite frequently and in what I do I see far too many yorkies ending up in rescue for ridiculous reasons that could have been avoided and often wonder how the people got them.

I suppose the best they can do is a background check. As far as I am concerned, I would not ever accept a puppy if I wasn't able to care for him/her, so suggesting that I was private messaged on an unjust account seems rather harsh (regardless, it does seem a bit personal ). I am doing my absolute best to pick the best breeder for me, just as I am sure the breeder I choose will do a secure check on my intentions as well as the home I plan to provide to my puppy. I understand that there are many people out there who may neglect their Yorkies, or any puppies for that matter, but I can assure you that I am not one of them. I am glad that you are concerned, but my private message has nothing to do with the breeders lack of concern for where her puppies go

Again, this has nothing to do with you OR the breeder you have been conversing with. You may very well be a terrific dog owner. But let me also say that anyone can SAY what their intentions are. I want them to prove it to me.

I did not say that YOUR PM had anything to do with the breeder mentioned. I have never heard anything bad about her and I am sure if you share this thread with her (which I am sure someone has), she will fully understand exactly what I am saying and where I am coming from. I have seen her comments in the past on this forum and I was led to believe that she is very careful about placing her pups.

This is an ongoing thing though about people getting scads of PMs about available puppies and if I see an opportunity to publicize it, I always do. If you go back far enough in my postings, you will see it is not the first time I have mentioned it. Why do I do it? For the sake of the pups. Period.

As for your comment about people not taking well bred yorkies to shelters, you are sadly mistaken and/or misinformed. I could show you pictures of my yorkies and you would not be able to tell by looking at them that they came from a shelter. I have a couple that clearly came from good lines but they ended up homeless. People give up yorkies ALL OF THE TIME and it matters not where the yorkie came from OR it's lines. They end up in shelters or, if they are lucky, the owner is kind enough to surrender them without dumping them in a shelter where their fate is not always so good.

Trust me that I have had yorkies that I absolutely KNEW where they came from....and I have contacted the breeders to let them know. Usually they allow us to keep them, but you best well believe it happens. It could happen to any of us....breeders or rescuers. Now, I am NOT saying that each one of those was placed badly....even when you do the best job possible in placing a pup, some people can disappoint you in terms of the welfare of the pup.

As for your comments about people having lives. Little dogs have lives, and in my opinion, if you are bringing them into the world you owe it to them to provide the very best. I do what breeders do...I place pups....the only difference in me and them is I don't make money doing it. I expect them to do what I do....thoroughly check out who they are giving these precious babies to...do their level best to see to it that the pup is in the best home possible. I don't fly all over the country...I network and I DO have home visits done by people I trust. I don't see ANY reason why a breeder cannot do the same.

I completely understand, I was in no way trying to belittle your opinion. You are clearly way better informed than I am. I just wanted to reassure you that she wasn't simply going to place the puppy with me. I am sorry if you thought otherwise, I am glad that you are so careful about your puppies. It makes me happy to know that people care so much about them

Well Linda not exactly placing the pups is only one task the breeder does.
As you well know a good breeder will raise, rear, train, and show their dogs to championship. They will do all the health and what little genetic testing is available for their breeding dams n sires. They will spend countless hours reviewing pedigrees running programs to see breed compatibility matches. And then they we spend weeks at home nail biting to see how the whelp goes, and more weeks nailbiting to see how the pups turn out.

For me I prefer to meet folks in the walk of our lives, when I'm at shows, or obedience rings, or swimming or hiking with the pups. But then again I am not in it to make money; but to maintain and if God is good to improve this breed I breed. And to know, to educate yourself requires time and lots of it, along with a financial investment with not a thought of "payback".

It is not the only task I perform either.....I spent countless hours and dollars on these pups. I was merely referring to the placement of these pups in homes.

I am just happy to see that you are taking the time to seek out a good breeder. It is a good thing...coming here to YT and asking questions! Hopefully it will save you a lot of heartache.

Nicole who are the 2 breeders your considering? I think I missed it. Also, do you go to work or school? How long would your pup be alone in the day? Will you be home be on break or vacation when you first bring him/her home? Has your Schitzu been socialized? Will she be meeting the new pup before you bring him/her home?

I am considering Gold Dust Yorkies and Deb Sillers, but leaning more towards Deb Sillers. I do go to school and I do work on the weekends. My pup will never be home alone, as my boyfriend and I have completely different schedules. I would not get a puppy if she had to be left home, so it works out well that our schedules are so different. I am bringing her home in May intentionally, as I will not have any classes at all during the summer so I will have 4 months where my attention is focused entirely on her. My Shih Tzu will not be meeting my new puppy until she is older, as she lives with the rest of my family and my puppy will be living with me in New York. She is well socialized though, as we have many dogs in my family, all of which she has been around her entire life. The only time they may meet would be during a holiday, such as Christmas, but that's about it

The only other animals I have are hermit crabs, haha they don't really take much care, they kind of just do their own thing I have had them for about 3 years though, if not more! My family lives in NJ and I live in NYC so it's about an hour drive from here to my parents house, so it's not far at all. My boyfriend and I have been planning for a puppy for quite some time now, so yes he is definitely active in the search as this is a financial obligation for the two of us. He is very excited to get our little girl, we have saved up for quite some time now! We actually began our search at a store in Brooklyn (before I learned how terrible pet stores were) and it was terrible. They sold mostly Yorkies, in wire cages stacked on top of one another in a storefront, with about 4 puppies to a cage. I knew something was up so I went home to research if buying a Yorkie from a pet store was a good idea and I came across this site. The puppy was so tiny from the pet store I went to, she said it would be under 2 lbs adult weight and she let us hold her without asking any questions which I thought was so strange since the puppy was so tiny. The puppies looked so sick and seemed so sad I am going to post a picture of the one puppy I saw at the pet store, he was a cutie but I would never support a pet store like that. The store has over 300 ratings now, if not more, saying they brought home the puppy from that store and it passed away within a week. It's just so sad.....
