| What's your crate/ xpen/ bed set up? What was your crate/xpen/bed arrangement for a new puppy? We haven't gotten our pup yet but right now we have a soft side travel bag an xpen and a little bed. Is that good for a pup or do we need a true crate as well? We are looking at rescue so not sure who we will bring home but I was thinking if we end up with a really young one, we could put the travel bag inside the xpen to make it cozy. Good idea or no? |

what you put in it is a bed, some toys, food & water dish. line one side with potty pads. keep the puppy/dog in this while you are not home. you may want a small crate just to use for bedtime. make sure when you are at home you are able to supervise . yes , if you do get a young puppy it is a good idea to make a nice cozy place in the xpen. for bedtime put the bedtime crate in your room so the puppy will not feel too lonely .. | |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I have never had a rescue dog but if it were me I would ask as many questions of the shelter about her/his behavior as I could think of and accommodate the living quarters to suit the new arrival. You may need to try different things and just find what works. Just supervise the situation and do what you feel is best for your living situation. I would definitely have a make sure that you have a nice comfortable doggy bed or blanket, a gate or possibly a cage for those times you need to leave the home until you are satisfied with their behavior and they have gotten use to their new surroundings. You never know what you will come home to if they are left to roam the home unsupervised. You just need to be prepared for anything and everyhting.

| I would put their potty pad on one side and on the other a soft blankie or one of those little soft beds. |

| If you are talking about a soft bag then as long as there are no long handles for the pup/dog to get tangled up in & strangle then it should be ok. |

| For a puppy (which I have yet to have) I would have everything in the pen. Piddle pads, bed or open crate, and food and water. For an older pup, which I had, (12 months) I made the pen much smaller that held his bed and food and water bowls. He was outside potty trained and we had no need for piddle pads. (at that time)

It's that or your pen is rather small for all you have in it.

| I have always used a playpen for mine. Toys, bed, water. No potty pads though. I never wanted to deal with potty pads but someone is home most of the time to take baby out. I have an xpen for outdoor playtime so I could run in to grab the phone. When Cozy had puppies I did use an x-pen in a kitty pool indoors. Good luck with your news addition.
