I have never had a rescue dog but if it were me I would ask as many questions of the shelter about her/his behavior as I could think of and accommodate the living quarters to suit the new arrival. You may need to try different things and just find what works. Just supervise the situation and do what you feel is best for your living situation.
I would definitely have a make sure that you have a nice comfortable doggy bed or blanket, a gate or possibly a cage for those times you need to leave the home until you are satisfied with their behavior and they have gotten use to their new surroundings. You never know what you will come home to if they are left to roam the home unsupervised. You just need to be prepared for anything and everyhting.
