| Hate and despise these places and the owners, and the brokers especially HUNTE CORP, and the puppy mills and the owners who supply this unbelievable in this day and age, so called business....It sux bully sticks and quite frankly I will, until my dying day fight against this practice and believe me I'm the most passive, non-activist person you will meet -EXCEPT when it comes to this...My Miss Mini is one of these pups, yeah I rescued her, thats for sure...at what cost to her? I have single handedly contributed over 25,000 to the economy in vet bills alone, and quite honestly its way more than that...I could go on, and on, but I'm just venting on your thread, thank you..

| I think Torondo, Canada has banned the selling of puppies/dogs in pet stores unless they are from rescues. This is a positive step forward. I hope other areas adopt similar legislation.

| My friend just bought a yorkie from the mall pet store over the weekend. She was posting it all over facebook. I know for a fact that she was not educated in the whole puppy mill and pet store relationship. Then went into town the kids were begging for a puppy and next thing you know they were puppy owners. I told her about the whole puppy mill issue when she returned. I felt so bad. You could see the sadness on her face. But I just told her that it was ok, she didn't know and all she should care about doing now is taking GREAT care of that puppy. Well today she just called me worried about her new baby girl. She noticed that she wasn't acting the way a puppy should so she took her into the vet today and it turns out she has an upper respiratory infection. That poor little thing. So not even a week later the puppy is sick and she is already having to pay lots of vet bills.

Kept getting this USDA inspected line, and how they do not buy from puppy mills. The signs are proudly posted all over their windows. When I went on line and researched one of their breeders, I told them to check her out.. as she deff was a puppy mill with. Their response was that they would stop buying from her.Big Deal! Our Golden, Charlie was a pet store dog that was too big, and on his way out. Someone had bought him and brought him back. Turns out he was a brother sister mating, and he got every bad possible genetic thing. Lived only till 5, but we at least gave him 5 years. $30,000 from us to the vet economy..

Good rule to follow. My new rule now too. I don't think I ever walked though one like that. At least you know at Petco or Petsmart they are rescues.. I think anyway.. I'll be staying far away from them now believe me. It wasn't a good feeling leaving that place. I did get on with my day after I left the mall, but it was sad to see. This was a total how much is that doggy in the window type of store. | |

| y If you ask someone who has purchased a petstore animal to show you the registration papers it is easy to see where they came from. If the breeder is local the kennel name and address should show that. Of course there are "local" puppy mills and large scale back yard breeders that supply these stores. The majority of these animals do come from states that have few or no laws regulating the breeding and selling of these animals. The people who do this type of thing must have some strong political contacts because the laws always seem to get watered down in the long run. Most states have no money to spend on enforcing the laws anyway so they pass something that they think will make them look like they actually took action. |

| pet shop puppy I'm glad the pet shops in my area don't have puppies (except on adoption days when the shelters/rescue bring puppies/dogs) Petsmart and Petco (to my knowledge) haven't sold puppies and kittens in many years.... We do have puppy mills here (NC) I wish the laws were better....the laws aren't even enforced most of the time... a mall in NJ wanted $1100 for a yorkie puppy (that was 10 years ago)... I rescue my babies (pound, rescue groups, off the roads)
