| When it rains, it pours. On top of everything else little Tina is going through, I noticed yesterday one of her ears is completely closed. She hurt her ear awhile back, we think on something in the garage. That is when we were letting her have alittle more free range before the dementia really got bad. Took her to the vet and it healed somewhat. Still would bleed off and on and then I had her ears cleaned about a month or so ago. I had not clipped her or bathed her because even though I have heat in the garage where their bath tube is, she gets sooo cold with losing so much hair. She is too old and sick to be put under for them to do anything about this. I guess, what I'm asking if anyone has ever heard of anything like this and with it closed will infection set up in there. I don't know. I know I will end up calling my vet, but, I was absolutely shocked. It looks like little nolocules (sp) in her ear and just closed it up. Gosh, what else? Poor little baby. I would not think of them putting her under to do anything. She would never live through it. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this? |

| Oh, gosh yes, you need to get that opened up right away. The secretions in the ear will cause a raging infection. The ear has to have access to the air. It must be painful to her right now just from the pressure. I know how hard it is with vet bills but that is serious. |

| That should be looked at by your vet. It could be abcessed already and that could be what you're seeing as "closed up". I would imagine that could be quite painful.

| Got a call into my vet right now. Waiting on her to call me back. Like I said, she has took care of our dogs for years and she is wonderful. I got to thinking they might could use a local on her and open that ear. It looks just like the skin from where she was hurt just covered her ear. Her being so tiny and the vet that did their ears when we bought her cut her ears too short. She has tiny ears for a schnauzer. Didn't take much for it to close. I just had not clipped them since they were cleaned and her hair grew out and I didn't notice. Will let ya know what my vet says. We do whatever we have to do for our babies. Someone mentioned vet bills. We don't consider that when our babies need something. I just feel bad I didn't notice. I would have if I had bathed her but, like I said it has been too cold for her and her health condition. |

| Well, its just that we are right at having to put her down. I just don't want her to go through no more. Poor little baby is just where she cannot even stand alone to tee tee and bathing her is really a chore. If I had just noticed earlier. She eats, sleeps and doesn't act like she is in pain. Whats strange is it looked so good and had quit bleeding and the vet said it would heal on up on its on. Looked great and then when we got her ears cleaned, I wonder if that had something to do with it. I wish the vet would hurry up and call. |

| Don't be so hard on yourself. You don't know what's going on under the initial cut. An infection can be working on itself for days under the skin before you ever realize there is a problem, and that is "if" that's what it is. If she's not showing any signs of pain, it is very possible you still caught it early or it is something else altogether. Let us know what your vet says, and give your girl an extra hug.

| I just don't understand how something healed, could do that. I was so proud of how it was looking because whatever she cut it on, did a job on the inside of her ear. We think she may have cut it on the garage door but no for sure because she goes in under anything and everything. Dementia is horrible whether its a person or animal. So sad. Thats why she is watched so close now. It didn't bleed or anything after her ears were cleaned...Just gets me, I don't know. |

| Well, if the tissue is punctured deep enough it must heal from the inside out or it will cause an abcess. What happens is the surface tissue heals faster over deeper tissue and it can appear "healed." Then the inner tissue that is not yet healed cannot get air, causing a pocket inside the tissue. Bacteria and infection begins and forms an abcess or pocket of infection. This is why with deep tissue cuts, it is very important to keep them clean and open so they can heal from the inside out. That is just how an abcess can form. They can form anywhere on the body from something as minor as being poked by a stick or thorn, but that is not to say for sure what is goin on with your girl as only a vet can determine that. The good thing is, "if" this is the problem, once an abcess is opened up they heal rather quickly and actually provide almost immediate relief.

| Going to the vet. Pray for me because I have not drove in 2yrs. because of my health. She said she had to see Tina, but they would not consider surgery of any kind because she was too fragile. They are thinking shooting an antibotic down inside someway and I don't know, I will just have to see what they have in mind. She said she had seen that alot but in Tina's case there is not alot that can be done. She said it would be major surgery and she would not put her through that. I know she thinks we should have her put down because she is so bad but I just can't face that right now and by myself. Dh doesn't get home until about 6 and they close at 6. Just pray they can help her and I don't kill us getting us there. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Awh yes poor thing. About the bathing, can you used a waterless shampoo, and some unscented baby wipes, until the weather warms up? Another option is to just do mini baths, like the paws legs, one day (if hubby can help, you can speed up the wash time), maybe butt and face the next day or two days later. Also heated towels to wrap her in after bath. If you use conditioner use the leave in kind, that way she doesn't have to have another rinse. I also would look at getting a nice xpen for her (if you don't already), and letting her roam, safely in this pen. If she is used to following you i n the house, depending on how much she weighs, how about a papoose that you can carry her in , leaving your arms free to work.

| Sending prayers...know that what ever choice you make for her treatment, it is the right one. You know what is best, whatever that may be. |
