Don't be so hard on yourself. You don't know what's going on under the initial cut. An infection can be working on itself for days under the skin before you ever realize there is a problem, and that is "if" that's what it is. If she's not showing any signs of pain, it is very possible you still caught it early or it is something else altogether. Let us know what your vet says, and give your girl an extra hug.
