YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() Congrats on your new baby, he's precious. Yes, he was way to young to be takin from his Momma and litter mates, but as you and others have said, what's done is done, so try to make the best of it from here on out. Our Mags (yorkie/chihuahua mix) was only 1 pound 1 ounce when we got her, she was just turning 6 weeks old. I had no choice though, it was either get her and her brother, or they were going to be euthenized. They came from a HORRID situation and were both already sick when they came to us. Sadly, Mags brother Luke passed away a few days after him being with us. Mags was on medication the first 6 months of her life because she was so sick, and with her being so small, I had to set my alarm clock and get up every 2-3 hours through the night for the first 3-4 months and feed her and make SURE she ate. My vet doesn't recommend nutrical, he doesn't like the greasiness of it and said he'd rather me use kayro and water, so I made sure I went out and got that and kept it on hand. Also, he didn't want Mags having play sessions any longer than 10 minutes twice a day. It was very hard, but I did what I had to do and kept her entertained without her running around burning off calories and energy and depleting her sugar. I didn't sleep with her in my bed though for the longest time, she was way to small and I was afraid my husband or I would roll over on her thinking she was just a bump in the blanket or that after I'd fallen asleep, she's fall or jump off the bed. She cried cause she wanted in the bed with us, so I put her kennel on a table beside my bed and slept with my hand fingers through the cage bars, it helped her calm down and sleep. Be VERY careful about having her around other animals and being out and about right now till she gets all her shots. Also, my vet wouldn't give her all her shots like normal, she was way to small, so he stretched them out over a longer period of time. I think she was between 5 and 6 months old before she had all her shots done with. And please be very careful when people or children hold the baby, one fall or drop or fall could be fatal at such a young age and being so tiny. As for the lil scabs on him, Mags had them as well and also some balding where fur was just gone, our vet did a skin scraping and she had demodectic mange and a compromised immune system, I believe it was Goodwinal (sp) he prescribed for it, it was the safest thing to use on her for it because of her weight and age. I had to use it on her for months, it finally got her cleared up, but it was a long slow process and the safest. Our vet also said with her having the demodectic mange, once it was cleared up, her going into heat or anything else that was stressful to her and her having a now compromised immune system, it could cause her to get it back. When she was of a weight that satisfied doc, we had her spayed. She's now a lil over 5 years old and healthy, but because of her start in life, she'll always have a compromised immune system. Please be very, very careful with your lil one and don't leave him alone for long periods of time. Him eating on time and keeping his sugar level up is VERY IMPORTANT as well as making sure he stay hydrated. Good luck with your lil one.

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() I also wanted to add, I'd NEVER recommend changing any furkids food over over cold turkey, I'd always done it over a weeks to two weeks period of time, but with Mags, she wasn't eating the puppy chow properly and I also hated her being on such a crappy food. Thank God it worked and didn't back fire in my face, but I HAD to go cold turkey and switched Mags to Wellness Super 5 Mix Just For Puppies. If your lil one is eating though and you're not having any issues, I'd leave well enough alone and let him stay on it until he's older, and then very slowly switch him to a food you'd like him to be on. When Mags turned 2 years old, I tried switching her from the puppy Wellness food to the adult Wellness food and she ended up in the ICU with IV's in her :-( Doc said her said her system just couldn't handle the change and to leave her on the puppy frmula the rest of her life. At age 5 years, she started turning into a lil porker though, and cutting back the amount I was feeding her left her hungry, so, with lots of prayer, I started VERRRRRYYYY slowly switching her to the Wellness Super 5 Mix Adult Health For Small Breeds, so far, she's doing good, but when I say very slowly, I mean, so far, I've been switching her food for a lil over a 2 month period and we still aren't all the way switched over. I'm doing it so slowly it'll probably take another month or two months to switch her over completely, just depends on how she does and what her stools look like. Good luck to you and your lil one.

| ![]() I am sorry that you were mislead. We see that on here, a lot. The puppy is better off with you, it could have been dropped off at the animal shelter or worse. At least you are doing everything to take care of this tiny puppy. You have gotten good advice too. I also would suggest, taking the pup to your own vet. Get the Nutrical, and ask the Vet exactly what mixture you should be feeding and how often. I recently had a foster puppy I had to bottle feed. The person who brought them in said the mother got hit by a car. (Probably a lie) He only said that, when we said the pups needed to stay with their mom until they were 8 weeks old (Fl law) He also gave us a fake address and phone number. We are not allowed to ask for photo ID any more ![]()

| ![]() SO sorry ladies!!! Mator is doing great! Its been busy around here and I haven't been getting the updates on email and hadn't popped into YT in a couple days. The vet said that it was ear mites.....causing the scabbing. poor little man. He also recommended not switching his food right now, and Mator was up to 1 lb 3 oz when we were at my vet. He has been eating great, drinking great, peeing well, having lots of mini playful sessions and lots of naps...he climbs in his little cage all by himself, loves his little bed and toys too. He is teething something fierce...and we are trying out best to redirect to toys vs our fingers/feet lol. We are going back to vet tomrrow, to get a re weigh and follow up on the mites. He still hasnt gotten any shots, due to his size, we are going to re-evaluate with the vet tomorrow about possbily beginning now that hes over 6 weeks (slowly vet said). Mator slept from 11-5 last night--it was a dream...then he was UP for about an hour and half before napping again. He is having accidents in his crate once in a while...but Im not too concerned due to his age, I leave the blankets in there for warmth. I assume as he gets bigger we will have to take the blankets out to break him of that?? Im so sorry I kept you all hanging! Thanks for thinking our our little Mator. Someone mentioned not letting kids hold him....I did post a pic of my dauhgter holding him...she NEVER holds him unless we are sitting right with her....we know how fragile our little man is. Scamp our 3 year old yorkie is doing well with the puppy too...we are making a concious effort to make sure he isnt feeling left out, etc.
