I personally don't encourage regular sleeping in the bed for my dogs. My Yorkie is crated at night-time, and all pups before bedtime, get some loving on the bed, then it is off the bed for the big ones, and into crate for the Yorkie.

Good sleep is the guardian of health. If in all other ways, this b/f is good to you and the pups. Loves them, walks them, plays with them, makes them a part of your life together; then I would never let go of such a good soul. He may come around in time, to acceptance of pups in the bed, or he may not. Dogs can get used to sleeping on their doggy beds beside your bed.

I agree with you! DH and I do the same thing!! Peanut sleeps in his crate at night. Before we go to sleep DH, Peanut and I have one on one time on the bed before we tuck him in his crate!!

Wow! Thanks for all of the great replies, I see that I'm not alone with this problem! The good news is that the new guy already got the boot, and Linus and Kimchee never got kicked out of the bed It turned out that the new guy HATED Linus and Kimchee because they apparently smell bad (they don't! Well, maybe Linus has morning breath, but, give a dog a break!), he was mad that he had to wash his clothes after he was at my house because apparently he was covered in "dog smell," and he would only be ok with things if Linus & Kimchee didn't sleep in the bed, didn't lick him, and WEREN'T IN THE SAME ROOM WITH HIM! They. Are. Dogs. Seriously.

Good learning experience though, I'm only considering dog-lovers in the future. I mean, dogs are basically pure joy and love jumping around on 4 legs -- how can you not love that? Major red flag.

Anyway, problem solved -- thanks for all of the advice!

Wow. Do you know how pathetic your update makes your former BF sound? He had to wash his clothes after being in the house with your Yorkies?

Sounds like he needs professional help, unless he was using the your Yorksters as an excuse to break up over other issues...

In any case, you will find a much nicer guy out there who actually loves your little guys.

The furbabies were there before he was!! I agree with the post talking about being a package deal. If you wanted to comprimise maybe they could get in the bed for a little snuggle time before they go to there own bed. My advise is to go with what your heart tells you and if he can't deal with that oh well he's missing out!!

So glad you didn't make any changes for that guy. You would have been so unhappy catering to his whims. Some guys can hide who they really are for a long time before it comes out. So glad you saw the light quickly.

If it were me I would tell him to hit the road jack and don't come back. To me he is not a real true yorkie lover and how do you think your fur kids will feel when you have to kick them out of the bed? I had three parrots now two but they were with me many years and it took awhile but I found my special guy which is my husband now. He really took alot of b.s. from the parrots but today he still loves them and always helpful when one gets sick. We are going on our second yorkie together which he loves dearly and never would throw them out of the bed. My very first yorkie got the bed and he got the couch and Keyla lived til he was 11 years old. As I said it takes a special man and you will know. Hope this isn't too offending but your fur kids need mom.

Omg, this whole thread is crazy. I think it is crazy that sooo many women would rather have a dog in the bed than a human being. I love Milo, but Milo is not allowed in my bed, number one I don't think it is safe, number two I am absolutely scared of an poop or pee attack in the night, and finally I do think that it takes an incredible amount of daily attention to a pet to clear the natural smell that they emit. I think ppl forget that it is easy to get used to the smell of a dog to the point that you cannnot detect the scent throughout your house. People who do not have pets can be very sensitive to "pet smells". The boyfriend in question may have really smelled the dogs. Now this comparison is a stretch, but I if you think on how fast us non-smokers can smell a smoker, even if they haven't cracked a pack in a while. I have always been pretty good at sniffing out a house that has a pet in it, even if that pet is groomed pretty regularly.

MarliQQ you're missing the point. No one person should have to change who they are or what they're comfortable with for someone else. If the situation were reversed, and I did not allow pets in my bed, I really shouldn't have to change that for someone else.

But, if I'm the crazy dog lady that has shared her bed with her furry baby for over 2 years and even has her baby's paw prints tattooed on her hip (which I do) then that's who I am. This is what makes me happy. Mr New that I met a few months ago can take it or leave it. I'm happy with my home (my sanctuary) just the way it is.

People who don't like dog ""smells" don't belong in my home just like people who smoke....either take it outside or don't come here.

To each his own...but I seriously don't know how you manage to live with your pup if you are that sensitive to "pet smells".
