| Vet doesn't want to see new puppies until 6 weeks? My friend's dad has a male yorkie he recently bred. The puppies were born a few days ago and we went to see them today. He's getting to keep one of the puppies but since he's keeping a puppy from a litter that was born a few months ago to a different mom, he's offering me the puppy from this litter (landlord approval pending, I talk to them tonight!!) The lady said she talked to her vet and he told her as long as everything seems ok with the pups, he doesn't need to see them for a wellness exam until he gives them their first shots at six weeks. This seems very off to me. Shouldn't they be seen a lot sooner than that? Should I be worried? Also here's some pictures of them and their mom, they're too precious!

| She said she wants to keep their tails long because she likes the look of them. I'd never seen an intact tail until today and I like the look of the docked tail but don't have a problem keeping it long, but I'm not sure about the dew claws. But if she's no docking their tails, is it ok for the vet not to see them until they're six weeks?

| It's much easier to do the dew claws at 3-5 days and much less painful for the puppy. Some experienced breeders do this themselves but I wouldn't advise anyone who has not done it to try it. There is no real reason to take them to the vet until they are 6 weeks unless you are having one of the procedures listed above done or if there is a problem. It's actually better for the pups to stay out of the vets office and home with the mom until they have to go. |

| Gracielove, that's good to hear that they should be ok. I spoke with my landlord last night and they're going to let me have another puppy!! I am so excited I can't believe it. I've wanted to get Riot a brother for the last two years and this little dog just fell into my lap. I don't know which one I'll get but we'll go visit them when they're older and have a little more personality and see. I can't be thankful enough for the kindness of my friend and her family.

I would be worried that 6 weeks is to young for shoots. When is she letting the puppies go to there homes?
