It's much easier to do the dew claws at 3-5 days and much less painful for the puppy. Some experienced breeders do this themselves but I wouldn't advise anyone who has not done it to try it. There is no real reason to take them to the vet until they are 6 weeks unless you are having one of the procedures listed above done or if there is a problem. It's actually better for the pups to stay out of the vets office and home with the mom until they have to go.
