If you take the entire yorkie population of the world, the show yorkies are a very very very small percentage. The great great majority are pets. This is one of the major reasons I do not agree with the standard and feel it needs to be changed. There is not a single YTCA breeder on this forum and yet the majority of us have yorkies who had their tails docked for no other reason than archaic breed standard. What is the purpose....to better the breed? Hiw in the world do docked tails make this breed better? This is just plain wong.

To compare the pain involved with ear piercing to tail docking is not logical since the pain from the tail mutilation is so much greater and lasts so much longer. Just for the record, I did not pierce my daughter's ears until they requested it.

You have said many times Kim, that you were friends with all you dogs breeders...My question is..How many of your dogs tails are intake?

The dew claws would actually help a dog who does agility. But if they are removed then that athlete has to do without.

I am friends with all of them but I did not meet any of them until the puppies were 6 weeks at the youngest. I got all of my dogs from different breeders.
To answer your question, my westie is my only dog with an intact tail.

As far as even attempting to compare fixing your dog and having their tails docked, ears cropped, dew claws removed, there is absolutely no likeness between the two at all. I actually can't even believe that that was stated on this thread. (NOT trying to attack whoever posted it.. can't even remember.. mostly bc who wrote it is not the point)

You could argue that the dog gets anesthesua for the neuter...

But I actually am one who believes, as does my vet, that routine neutering is unnecessary, risky and unjust. There is a lot of controversy about how neutering changes a dog and many believe that a dog should keep all of it's parts unless there is a good reason that is not just human convenience (marking, irresponsible supervision leading to unwanted pregnancy, humping, etc)for the dog to be neutered like it is a health issue or something. There are other threads on here and articles on the internet on this subject as well so I won't go into detail but the myth that a dog who is neutered will live a healthier life is just that, a myth. Kim I have read your posts over and over again youve beat your opinion into everyone here as you do on most contoversal thread...Opinions are great but for you to beat it in the ground, roll on it to make sure its dead and then beat it again is getting old.

The standard is set so let it be. One doesnt have to be in the YTCA to respect the standard and adhere to the rules. As long as I am breeding a high quality pup they will not leave my house without the docked tail and the dewclaws period!!!

Some has mentioned a list of invasive selective surgery we do on babies as well as children and adults yet I dont see you shoving those opinions down ones throat as you do this. Repeating if you have a son you circumsized him that would be considered cosmetic as well as ear or any body pearcing, how about tatooing, or any botox injections, how about lypo suction all of these procedures take days even weeks to recover (with the exception of botox, Ive had it, its fun not to squint when reading your posts !!). The pain on tail docking lasts as long as a squeek if done before 5 days they barely feel a thing. The pain may last seconds it is not a constant life time pain and reminder OH MY GOD i have not tail, its seconds for god sake!

The main reason I had my Harley fixed had nothing to do with his behavior such as marking,humping etc (THAT I can deal with! .. Belly bands baby! ) lol I did it bc testicular cancer kills sooo many dogs that having him fixed appealed to me in his benefit. As far as it changing dogs behavior/personality etc Harley didn't have any real changes after being fixed. He's still the same ole' furball of energy, love and excitement that he has been since the day I picked him out at his breeders. The neutering/spaying of course is set to occur at a particular time period where the chances of personality changes are at a minium. But we have had all 5 of our dogs fixed (2females & 3males) with absolutely zero change in personality. TA was almost 2 when she was fixed, Lady around 4 or 5 (we're not too sure of her age), Clovis around 6-9 months (same with this furball.. ), Zeus at 6-7months and Harley at 6months. All of them were fixed not out of guilt or pressure from media or from vets but out of the care and concern we have for all our babies. Now, as far as stating that it is our responsibility as their owners to insure that they don't breed with one another or with others dogs.. that's a little tough when you have 3 males and 2 females running around! (and I'm not talking wee-bittie yorkies here..lol.. I'm talking 55lbs+ of boisterous doggie ramming through the worlds biggest and toughest baby gate seperators lol) I don't care how careful you are when a female is in heat and there's a horny little bugger living in the same house, BOY are you in for run for your money! Literally.. In fact IMO sometimes leaving your dogs 'all natural" wink wink causes TERRIBLE behavior issues! My bf's english bulldog Lulu is not fixed and man is she a terror! She was never like this until she went into her first heat and from there on out she has been a super b*tch and fights with any and all the dogs just to do it. Everyone of course has the right to their own opinions and that's why I enjoy YT so much bc it's a safe haven for anyone and everyone to state their opinions and learn. I do not think it is fair to the original posters that the subject not to neuter keeps popping up in threads. I find it offensive when someone suggests I neutered my dogs for my convience. Do you have any idea the inconviences Gus causes me? I gladly do everything FOR HIM. I'm sure I'm not alone. I did not have him neutered on a whim. My vet suggested it with my first yorkie, I asked her why, gave much thought about whether or not to do it and finally had it done...even though I was terrified. I'm won't to take this thread off topic anymore than that.

The majority of people posting on this thread agree that docking tails is unnecessary so why are you singling me out? You really need to learn to accept views that are different from yours if you want to get along here. It is not appropriate to attack individual members because you don't like their posts.

As Kewtee said on a thread yesterday "Go for the ball, not the man"...yes, a sports analogy I know, but very appropriate here.
