| ![]() Cindy - I didn't even notice the mis-spelling. I read it as "controversy". Yep, spell check would be a good thing. |

Many of our yorkies are too big, have muzzles that are too long, have ears set too far apart, they aren't the exact required color, don't have black claws, still have dewclaws on their hindlegs, etc, etc. In other words, they don't meet the breed standard one way or the other. But they are our PETS and we love them. If we love Yorkies and aren't comfortable with tail-docking, why must we get a different breed?

| ![]() I have both docked and full tails at my house. Just because of the pain, I would be for leaving tails long. Here's the feedback I received when I interviewed my gang..lol ![]() ![]() ![]() Docked: Pros: Easier to keep the bottom clean Breed standard Cons:Not able to catch tail when chasing Not numbed before removal Undocked: Pros: You can beat others in the face and get away with it because your 'just wagging'. You can catch the tail you are chasing. Operates as a fan for others. Cons: Catches dingle berries which calls for a butt wash without warning. Sometimes looks as thought it's not apart of you if not groomed properly. Others can grab it to catch you while playing chase. Can get caught in the door or stepped on. So there you have it from both sides. lololol.. Seriously, I had a request to keep a puppy with a full tail. The pup was half paid for at 2 days old. This was someone that I was talking to for a while. I don't mind doing it if someone requests it. If they back out. I can keep the amout that was non-refundable. There are many others that would love a Yorkie with a full tail so I really dont hesitate. Unless I want to keeps something back. Hugs, Irene |

well, there is probably something I can do. I will be making a generous donation to the anti-docking alliance in my name. Hey, Platinum, I'll put your name on it too! ![]() Check this out..... http://anti-dockingalliance.co.uk/ The anti-docking contingent is BIG in Europe and Australia, and it is making its way here, so be prepared. It might take a decade or so, but I believe we will be seeing a lot fewer docked tails, just as we are already seeing fewer clipped ears now. The Brits are perhaps the greatest dog lovers in the world, and when I read the following, I am impressed: The Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, at its meeting today, 12th November 1992, resolved:The RCVS considers docking of dogs' tails to be an unjustified mutilation and unethical unless done for therapeutic or acceptable prophylactic reasons.Therapeutic docking to treat tail injury or disease is acceptable in the interests of the animal.

| ![]() I cringe to think I may live to see the day when it is illegal to have a dog's tail docked, but still legal to have earrings shot through a poor little babie's head... ![]() |

| ![]() I have hesitated on posting on this thread for a couple of days. I honestly dread tail docking day. I dread thinking of this day even when my female isn't pregnant. I prefer the docked look though I have nothing against the long tails. The people who purchase puppies expect a docked tail. The dew claws get removed at the same time and sometimes bleed also. The end result is all (or most) of the happy-go-lucky, energetic, crazy, sweet, loving, heart stealing Yorkie babies everyone on YT loves talking and hearing about. I will continue to dock tails as long as the standard calls for it. Breeding isn't for everyone and it isn't easy. This is a choice that each individual breeder has to make on their own and is only one of the many decisions that will have to be made. |
