Yorkie Talker | Breeder question My husband and I are thinking about getting another yorkie around Christmas , we just lost our baby over two weeks ago he would have been 11 yesterday he had alot of health problems from his joints to PLE I found a breeder she is a proffesional breeder and I was just wondering what yall think about it, she has Yorkies, but I also think she breeds others too should i go with a professional breeder or a private breeder what i gather from her website is she breeds pure bread yorkies, maltipoos and yorkie poos. Im just so nervous about getting another and it being healthy i dont think i could go through the pain of having another sick one even though i wouldnt change a thing that i had to do for Prancer I would have given the world for him . |

| Do you have a link to her website that we could see? It would probably help w the advice. Have you checked the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America's website? They are a group of breeders who agree to a code of ethics in breeding. ytca.org They have a breeders list for every state.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I always recommend checking out a YTCA breeder Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club, call and talk with them. You have a very good chance of being able to get one from them, since you've had a Yorkie for 11 years, you've already proven you know what their care involves. Most YTCA breeders are breeding for the right reasons, and first and formost should be health, these breeders have been breeding for years and have studied what goes into making a good example of the breed. I bought Joey from a YTCA member and at 5 Joey is still a picture of health, and a real cutie too! Please don't buy over the internet. Breeders who sell over the internet do not have to have any inspections, no matter how many dogs they have. Some of the worst puppy mills are those that sell over the internet. People are aware that you shouldn't buy from a pet store, but at least the breeders who sell dogs to pet stores have to have their kennels inspected. If you're not aware of puppymills and how they abuse dogs, I suggest that you check out this thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/mis...g-graphic.html

| "yorkie poos" and "malti poos" are mutts that she's breeding. i love these mixes, and would any day take a free one or adopt one. but i'd never pay for one from a "breeder" she sounds like a backyard breeder from your description, and her dogs probably aren't registered, health tested, etc. I would looks at the link Nancy&Gidget posted You'll gets lots of good info by searching these threads for Breeder examples and info.

| "teddy bear" face isn't the standard for a yorkie, so if anyone tries to tell you any of the following: I have "teddy bear face yorkies" "teddy bear yorkies" "teacup yorkies" "rare chocolate yorkies" etc etc I would not suggest buying from them. You want to buy from someone who refuses these terms, and will correct you if you use them, then will offer to educate you on the breed. Not saying that you are uneducated! Just that a good reputable breeder will not just sell their pups to anyone, they will make sure you understand what a yorkie is, what they are like/require, and etc etc. Goodluck!

| You should look elsewhere, she is breeding mixes, therefore, she is not breeding for to better the Yorkshire Terrier Breed. Try shelters and rescues. There are so many full blooded Yorkies in shelters and rescue.

| I just looked at the website you provided. I'm glad you are looking elsewhere. Personally I would not buy from a breeder who did not show the parents. This gives you an idea of what the children are going to look like and gives you a good idea of the quality of breeding stock she is using.

| If you are not stuck on getting a pure bred yorkie, please consider saving a yorkie mix as they are considerd muts, but give so much love just the same. I have the shelters and Yorkie Rescue groups in my area in my favorites at look at them all the time as I see another baby in my future.

| There are no such terms as professional or private breeder. Those are new terms substandard breeders use. First of all her web site flew up red flags with my firewall it scams a load of information & drops harmful cookies. Unfortunate as this was one of the most informative sites I've ever seen. Although still under construction...

| I know how you feel. My Brody had a lot of health problems but I did my research and learned from it. It was really tough seeing him go through so much. The website you linked is full of red flags that other members touched on so I'd stay away from them. Ytca.org is a great place to start. Rescue is always an option as well. There are a few sticky's on the site about what to look for and beware of in a breeder. Just research, research, research. It's a long process but just be patient and you'll find a happy, healthy baby

The breeder sells mixes. Were you confused there? Buying a dog isn't rescuing it's encouraging bad breeding.

| Not confused at all. IF the OP is looking for a full breed then so be it. I am only pointing out that if you look at shelters at rescue groups you could get a Yorkie Mix for free and save a little precious life.

| Sorry CG, I skimmed your question and responded in haste. I wouldn't ever pay for a pup that is a puppy mill pup or a designer dog. I love Yorkies, but I don't have a purebred. My Brutus has been a gift of happiness to my family, so does it matter now where he came from? This is my first experience with any type of baby. I was just asking the OP if being a purebred yorkie was a definate must, because it not - there are options and doing a rescue or searching shelters is positive. Just my opinion.
