| Not sure if you're asking me, but I ruled them out because their policies just didn't meet our needs very well. There have also been some reports of their existing customers having rates raised by tons a month (I mean, every company has the potential to raise rates yearly, but this was like raising it $50+ monthly??).... They make you pay the office call everytime. Sounds like even for rechecks. I'd rather have my $0 copay and $50 deductible (per incident, per year) from Petplan and know exactly what I'm getting myself into. If my pup were to have something wrong and have to go back 5 times in a year for it, I only have to pay the $50 deductible one time and not an office call/exam every time (for the regular vet). There was something else that I didn't like - can't remember now though. I really liked Embrace too, but their price scared me. I'm sure it's well worth it, but I was just more comfortable with started out at a lower price. Also, at the time medications weren't covered with Embrace. You had to get a rider. That may have changed since. Not a bad thing, but that added to the expense. Only thing is Petplan doesn't pay out 100% at specialists. Gotta go with what meets your needs the best. I also liked Petplan because as long as you get dentals as recommended by your vet, extractions and such are covered. I immediately discarded PetsBest because of their idea of what is pre-existing (have to be very careful with this). Nobody is going to cover pre-existing, but some will cover a pup for life if they get the disease while enrolled. Others consider illnesses pre-existing after the year has ended. So if pet gets illness x it will be covered, but then illness x won't be covered for all years going forward because it is now "pre-existing". There are many loopholes. PetAssure is a discount program. You get 25% off if the vet office you go to participates. They (the vet office) gets special offers from PetAssure if vet office agrees to give you 25% off. Well, that's how it was a few years ago when my vet checked into it for me. Didn't sound reasonable.

| I've been researching for a while and decided to go with Petplan. With a $100 deductible and 80 percent co-pay i'd only pay like $28 a month, for me it's the peace of mind. I can afford preventative care and emergencies but having this little extra just gives me a good feeling. I will enroll my dog once I get him neutered and chipped for the discount. I get him Tuesday

| Thanks for all your input; right now we have narrowed it to Trupanion and Petplan. For those of you that chose Petplan, can you say why you chose it over Trupanion? I like that it automatically covers hip dysplasia, covers exam fees and specialized vet fees. I like Trupanion because it has no max payout, covers all kinds of emergency/after hours care, and the premiums do not go up due to age. Trupanion is $8-$15 more per month than Petplan. |

| Trupanion doesn't go up because of age, but it does go up because of "higher vet costs in your area". There are some threads on YT about this with complaints about a huge payment jump with Trupanion... Don't remember, but I don't think they cover 100% of each claim. and Petplan doesn't for specialists (they cover up to 80%), but they do for the ER if it was life saving.

| We have Petplan and love it. We have never had to wait long to get our reimbursement. Putting the money for premiums in an account would not have benefitted us. Lily's annual policy is $98. We have been reimbursed over 2k for her expenses. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I have PetPlan for Pfeiffer (our youngest) -- and I love it. I only wish I'd gotten it when my other kiddos were younger. Live and learn .

| I have VPI and so far I like it a lot. My last visit with heart pills came out to about 114. they gave me back about 90. We haven't had to go in for any major issues.(thank God) so i'm not sure on how that would be.

| I went to the link someone posted with the comparison chart. Of all the companies listed only 5 have an A+ rating from the better business bureau. I know there are more details that need to be looked at. Everyone has their preference about how they like to deal with insurance companies. I also noticed that only 2 payed 90% of the bill. I guess most people would get pet insurance in order to off set the really big bills that no one expects or wants to have. |
