| Birth Control Pills?? No more Spaying and Neutering?? So I was watching the news and they said something that really caught my attention. Birth control pills for dogs. They said its the alternative for spaying and neutering our babies. With Max's Neuter really soon I am begin to wonder about this... Not saying I will get it but its something to to think about. I mean it makes them sterile without the pain and recovery from surgery. Plus he would get to keep his testicles . But I don't know here are some articles, what do you guys think? | Hmm, I'm not liking the side effects. Plus, I believe the plus side of spay or neuter is to prevent certain cancers.

| I think that any medicine that has not been on the market long enough for research studies on its sife effects are a big no no! Plus honestly spay and neteuring can prevent against diseases. I personally would not ever use this on my dogs.

| Yea I'm still going to go with nuetering Max, this just really caught my attention, because on the news the woman said NO SIDE EFFECTS. But it just sounded to good to be true so I researched it. It does SOUND like a good idea, but after reading a few more articles and reading your comment about cancer... I'd Feel more comfortable with the surgery. I just wanted to know what you guys thought about this. Thanks!

But I also believe since many people are irresponsible enough to forget it for themselves, that they may also forget to give it to there dog continuously.... Then up goes the amount of pups in shelters. Just my opinion though.

| For sure. As much as I'd like my baby boy to keep the change in his purse...I'm going to have to let them go. When I was younger I opted not to spay a girl dog I had and she developed the common "breast" cancer associated with it....Lessons learned. She lived through it thankfully!

| Not only does spaying and neutering decrease the risk of certain diseases, it's also permanent. What if a tiny female somehow got lost? She'd be at risk of getting into the wrong hands, and she would still be intact. So many people could take advantage of that.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Wow, this is very interesting. The contraceptive 'implant' is especially interesting for the males. I've never heard of this. For the people who are totally against surgical alteration, it's kind of an interesting option, at least. I wonder if the hormones for the males would suppress some of the "urge" they would have to mark and/or go crazy about female who is in heat (ie, you hear of a male dog running a 1/2 mile away bc of a female in heat).

| Not something I would ever do- I neutered Armani long before I got Chloe and when I knew there was no way in heck he would ever get loose to mate- I believe in altering for a lot of reasons above and beyond not mating.
