| When does the barking start? ;) Tink is almost 12 weeks old. I haven't heard her bark at anything! She does the little growl/snarl when she plays rough. Which is completely adorable, by the way But, I have read about Yorkies being quite vocal and I was wondering if Tink is a "late bloomer" in this area. LOL |

| Mine did not bark till 12-13 weeks and when she did pretty sure it scared her more than me. She is 18 weeks now and to this day very very rarely ever barks. She barked last night when hubby came home from work really really later than normal (1am) and her and I were in bed. She heard his truck pull up and went crazy untill he came in the bedroom to show her it was him. Then she layed down and went back to sleep. I dont know if it scared her or if she was barking to protect or if she was just happy he was home. She knows the sound of his truck but not used to hearing it at 1am. (Gotta love the life of a farmers wife) Other than that I bet since the first bark I have only ever heard her bark 2 maybe 3 other times. |

| Most dont bark that much when they are young pups but give a few months then watch out. Enjoy the quiet while you got it

| I notice a Yorkie doesn't seem to start to bark until they take ownership of that property and some do it quicker than others. My Scotty was the youngest of my Yorkies when I got him, I think he was about 12 - 14 weeks, and I had had him a month or longer I think before he barked. Tibbe was 9 mos. old and almost feral so he had a lot of issues to overcome. He barked at everything at first and then stopped barking after a week or so. He didn't bark again until he'd been here about 2 or more months - then he barked at everything all the time again. Had to train him to stop barking then! Ha! Now he barks only appropriately when he hears a noise he doesn't know, when he hears a noise where it should not be or when something/somebody is on his property, etc. He will bark until I thank him or he deems it appropriate to stop. Jilly was 4 1/2 mos. old when I got her and she didn't really bark until she had been here about 2 or more months.

| I agree. Enjoy the quite while you can. Kayla can go for hours. The breeder said she had never heard Dudley bark. We got him at 12wks. He hasn't stop barking since he has been here. lol!!!! He's bossy and lets everyone know what he wants. Just give it time and then you will be writing, How can I get this baby to quit barking at everything. lol!!!!!! |

| Kiwi rarely ever barked, we always thought it was strange, the only time he would bark was when we were in bed/sleeping and he heard something strange/unfamiliar (and most of the time only if my husb wasn't home, I think he was protecting me, he was a total mommas boy). He was like this the whole year we had him. Now Lola on the other hand will be 16 weeks in two days and she is a complete barker! Has been barking since the day we got her(around 9 weeks old). We are working on calming/stopping the unwanted barking and she has been getting better! I guess every dog is different!

| Mine just turned 4 months but he has been barking since I got him, he was about 13 weeks old. I think my other dog showed him how fun it is I love to hear him bark it's so darn cute! He also randomly barks at things in the house. I think he sees a ghost in there. Hmmm...

| I forgot to add that I think one of the cutest things in the world is to see a fuzzy little fubrall of a 5 lb. Yorkie barking at the top of his lungs at the huge garbage truck or a firetruck that comes down the street! They are soooo brave and will face almost anything down. My Jilly once backed my niece's 95 lb. Dobie across my sister's den floor and into the kitchen one Christmas Eve. She just did it with a "smile" on her face - showing a bit of ladylike teeth. The Dobie had pawed her and she took dainty offense. Once in the kitchen, the Dobie zoomed past us all and decided to nap the rest of Christmas Eve away in one of the bedrooms. Once we dug him out of one of the beds and brought him back to the party, he got up onto a couch and stayed far away from Jilly. But she kept a wylie eye on him the rest of the night.

| I agree with the post about "taking ownership". My two (yorkie and a maltese mix) do not bark while on walks nor at the dog park. I have been asked by people at the dog park if my dogs don't bark at all. Of course they do - but only when someone approaches our house and then you know what breaks out. Cherie

| Oh, enjoy the quiet! Once they discover their voice you may miss it. A huge limb broke off the neighbors willow tree, by my driveway, during the winds last night. Today they called a tree company to come cut it all up. ZoE has been letting the tree trimmers know she's watching them since 8am this morning...bark..bark..bark...bark...bark.

| I think an only dog may be slower at the barking thing. Gracie only barks when she is playing. She does a little growl that sounds more like a cat purring than a real growl when she is trying to get me to pay attention to her. It took her quite a while to realize she could bark. A dog that is around another dog that barks will pick it up more quickly. I used to have a little Maltese that never barked. It was only when we got another dog that liked to bark that she started to bark when someone would come to the door. |

Kaos was never a barker as a puppy. He only barks to this day, when someone is at the door. But...if I am home alone and he hears someone by the front door he goes CRAZY! He is fiercely protective of his mommy.
