| Help!! Break Bad Habits I just got my yorkie last weekend and she is 13 weeks old on Monday. She is doing a few things I am not too happy with and I am hoping some has some suggestions. For one, when she is on the couch or chair she starts to rapidly dig at the cushion...Any idea how to stop that? She is going to wear out the fabric. As well when she goes pooh outside or in she feels the need to slide her but around the carpet. She does this scooting motion. I am not sure how to stop this. Has anyone experienced this with their yorkie? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I want to stop these behaviors while she is young if possible. As well when I tell her NO in a stern voice she just continues to do it. |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | well, is it possible she needs her anal glands expressed? sometimes thats what it means when they scootch their bottom. It could also be that she has an itch, or there's the slightest big of poo stuck to her. as for the digging, i have no idea. both my dogs do that. I always thought it was a kind of territorial thing. good luck.

| My dogs do the same thing on the couch.... I wonder why they do this?? Sometimes when they are rubbing their butts like that they need their anal glands cleaned out, you can get that done at the vet or groomer. Good luck.. if you find a way to get them to stop diggin your couch let me know. I use a spray bottle and it seems to help. |

| for all of you with the couch diggers. Tigger did/sometimes does this as well. What my boyfriend and I do is give him his own blanket and when he starts digging on the couch(we have a leather L shaped couch) we tell him "NO DIG!!" in a firm voice and if that doesn't work we clap our hands and repeat "NO DIG!!" and then we get a hold of him and give him his blanket and tell him "DIG BLANKET." I like to call this the "making the bed" routine Because he will still continue to dig, but at least it's on his own turf and not ruining yours. Using a water spray bottle is also a good way to prevent it (just make sure it has never had chemicals in it prior.) You can also get a soda can and put coins in it tape over the opening on top and shake it whenever he digs and say "NO DIG!!" This should startle them enough for you to get their attention to something else. You may also want to try whenever your dog begins to dig giving it a toy instead. Best of Luck |

| Neither of these are habits but need to be handled differently. 1. A dog will dig up the area they are going to sleep on unless it on a hard floor. It is a natural instincts for them to do this. I don't know if you have provided your dog with her own bed in the room where your couch is or not but this could help. Or you can put a towel on the couch that you don't mind her digging and scrunching up. All of my dogs dig into their beds. 2. Your dog rubbing her fanny on the floor means something is bothering her and it could be medical. She could have worms, it could be her anal glands or she could have poop on her fanny. Only your vet can help you with the worms or anal glands. I am just not sure if puppy's have anal gland problems. Yorkie's can't stand to have poop on their fannies and it drives them crazy. So if you don't see poop then you need to talk to the vet. Good Luck with your little one.

| the digging thing is nesting or making a bed and it is perfectly normal for these babies, most dogs to do this no matter the breed...if you dont like it keep her off the sofa, the scooting of the butt is either she needs her butt washed and or trimmed or she is having trouble down there watch her if it continues see your vet for a stool sample

| I just got my yorkie last weekend and she is 13 weeks old on Monday. She is doing a few things I am not too happy with. ----------------------------------------------------- Hope you're not surprised!!!! My new puppy is on the couch a lot. I just have a large bath towel over the part of the couch she is on. He doesn't do the digging that you are talking about though. If my puppy is doing something I don't want him to do, I just pick him up and tell him , "No no no." Then I distract him and get him interested in something else. My other dog (4 years old) does the digging you are talking about everytime he gets in his doggy bed. (He actually wore one bed out doing it.) He does it for a minute or two before he lies down. I think it is instinctive behavior. I notice a lot of dogs do this (inside or out) before they lie down to sleep. It's like they are making their bed. Instinctive behavior, it will be hard to stop. For sure, place a towel on the couch so she won't damage the material on the couch. I would say "anal glands" also for your other problem. But, do very young puppies have this problem? I don't know.
