| What are Yorkies fears, irrational or rational.... Jackson has a few really weird quirks.... He's terrified of the fly swatter. Well it doesn't even have to be a fly swatter, but anything you are using to kill a fly.... he will run and hide under the bed and it makes me so sad. This is a dog who has never been hit or come close to being hit in his life! He's just terrified. Now this fear I understand a bit more: he's terrified of the oven. What happened was last year, my mom was cooking and the oven started smoking and so our smoke alarm went off.... now I am sure to a dog, it's WAY louder than it is for us so I can imagine how this would be scary. So he went a few months that every time we would turn the oven on to cook, he would run away and hide. Well, he had FINALLY gotten over this for the most part, he was able to sit in the kitchen and watch us bake and well just about a month ago, it happened AGAIN! Smoke alarm went off. So now the poor dog is terrified again... and he knows the difference too, like he does not care about toasters, toaster ovens, microwaves, the stove... it's ONLY the oven, and he's scared of it at other houses too now when someone is cooking! These are his 2 main fears I can think about and we work on them all the time. What about your pups?

| Ugh Peanut has a few... Which I don't understand them bc I dont beat him either lol He will go run and shake in the corner if a water bottle cracks by itself, but if you are drinking a water and he knows you are almost done with it he will stand there and bark at you so when you are done you can throw the bottle so he can chew on it He is also scared of the big Monster can's, you know how they "pop" when you open them. DH had bought one we were all in the car, he opened it and right after he was scared shi#less! He was shaking in the back of the car, now everytime he sees that can he gets scared! He is scared if you flick his finger at him. I have no idea how this started one day he was sitting next to me and I flicked my finger, i think I had food on it or something lol and he got extremely nervous and scared, now if you flick your finger around him or at him he will go shake in the corner!

| Sometimes what seem irrational to us makes perfect sense to a dog. Dogs can pick up fear from things we pay no attention to. Someone could have just been playing around with a rolled up newspaper or a fly swatter while your dog was watching and making the decision that he wanted no part of it. He is sensitive and also thinking. He may have gotten a wrong signal but in his head it makes sense. Obviously, he does not like the smoke alarm but it was probably the upset that it caused the humans that is bothering him more. I don't think it is just a Yorkie thing. Some dogs are just more sensitive than others. Try to remain calm when things out of the ordinary happen as your dog picks up on how you react to circumstances. I think some dogs identify very much with their owners emotions and how they respond to situations. |

| Boo has serious issues with noises. They don't even have to be loud, just sudden or sharp. Also, brushes held in your hand like you would to hit something with them. He is a rescue, we got him when he was 4 yrs old and I'm fairly certain he didn't have the best of life his first 4 years. We've never hit him, yet he still runs off if we have a brush in our hands. And I've learned to warn him before making a noise so that he can leave the room first. It just breaks my heart to see him nervous or upset. Yogi has a fear of loosing his toys. That's why he's never without his favorite.

| Both of them are afraid of the vaccuum, Jewels can be a little afraid of storms or loud children or fireworks. The most irrational fear they both have though is of the tape measure. That one doesnt make any sense to me

| Princess used to be pretty fearless. Now, at her ripe age of 1.5 years things have changed, lol. -She's afraid of the vacuum, she runs when I open the closet it's in just in case that's what I'm after. -I just found this out recently, she is completely terrified of garbage/shopping plastic bags! I was opening one up one day & she took off like crazy. When I found her she was so scared. I don't know where this came from, and only the last few months. -Apparently Princess is afraid of being alone. When I walk in the house I often feel her nose above my heels like she is seriously trying touch me the entire time. Unless I'm sleeping she must be in the same room as me. Unless I'm running bath water or get in the linen closet, then she assumes it's for her & heads for the hills.

| Max doesn't like the washing machine. It went off balance a couple of times and made a terrible racket. He alarm/stress barks at it. Teddy is afraid of thunderstorms, although he is improving. Neither one likes loud or serious voices.

| If it is metal, retractable one, I can understand that. They make weird noises and they have pinched me.

| Harry's afraid of the oven too!!! But for him, it's not to do with smoke alarms and stuff - it's when you open ours, there's a huge rush of such hot air that it even singed my eyelashes once He's gotten used to the vaccuum cleaner - but hates the lawn mower (??!) Our labrador used to be terrified of coffee mugs!!! Sally + Harry x |

| Sally, you made me think of something: my boys obviously think I am dangerous, but their grandpa is not. They are not afraid of lawnmowers or ovens because grandpa runs/operates those things. Whatever grandpa does is okay. It's not fair!

| I like reading all the different things your babies are afraid of. Makes me think Oz isn't so strange Ozzy is afraid of anything on the sidewalk that's different; like on garbage day he's afraid to go near the garbage cans, or he steered right clear of a hanging basket that someone had put close to the sidewalk. We ended up throwing away the retractable leash we had because after three times of dropping it and having it "chase" him - he running and "YIPE YIPE YIPE"-ing all the way, he became really scared of it. We've been really careful to give him good associations with things like the vacuum and hair dryer, and he's not bothered by loud noises at all.

| Tibbe doesn't like things that go "pop" or the den curtain rod and the sound it makes when I close the curtains, though he's no longer running from the sound and stays put, though watchful. He used to bolt from the room when I did it. He learned this fear when the curtain rod fell from the window and onto him one day when I was at work. Came home and found it down and Tibbe scuttling into the living room when I started to reattach it. It is very lightweight and didn't hurt him but sure did scare him and just about the time he was getting past that fear, it happened again when I was here. He's fearless in thunderstorms even though I am scared and he's fearless when he hears sounds from outside in the night, barking to alert me if he hears something different. He is also not fond of walking through close quarters where he doesn't have much room on either side. For something so small, I think he's terribly brave!

| The strangest thing that Belle has been afraid of was an empty cup rolling around in a parking lot one night when I brought her with me to pick my son up from work. She was watching it thru the car window and growling and barking as if it was a dangerous creature. This empty cup got her so upset that I got out of the car and threw it in a trash can.

| Sarge is terrified of thunder storms, and believe it or not -- his thunder shirt! The vaccuum cleaner is the boogey man. Bless his hear, he just doesn't like any loud noises--it's hard to watch any kind of ballgame around here---we have to whisper cheer and don't dare get between him and his doggy door if a loud plane comes over outside. He is definitely a good candidate for pup therapy, but we still love him to pieces. Lexi is pretty fearless. The only thing that bothers her is the broom---good thing I don't use it very much
