Potty Patch Worms???

Those are not tapeworms...I think it's the flies that laid the eggs and it turns into maggots? Bf agrees that I should throw it away. They recently had a dewormer and no worms...no symptoms of worms either. Should I still do a fecal?

Okay, I just googled fly maggot and those are EXACTLY what the things look like!! GROSS!! Now I'm too scared to throw it out It's giving me the creeps!!!

Can you put a couple in a plastic bag and take them to the vet to ask for advice? I would check your babies' bodies all over very closely.

If they had a dewormer that did not include drontal or equivalent, it wouldn't cover tapes. If the dogs are on monthly heartgard or interceptor than it is unlikely they have tapeworms. So when you say they had a dewormer and no worms and no symptoms, do you mean they had their monthly prevention? If not, you need a fecal. If the dogs are on monthly then the worms are coming from some place else. I find it hard to fathom that a household fly is laying maggot eggs that are surviving in sanitary conditions. If that is the case, call an exterminator to bomb your apartment.

yeah I'll call the vet tomorrow to ask. I just checked them and there's nothing on them...what should I be looking for? bumps? They both had a annual examination last week and the vet checked them and found nothing...we've been using the patch for 1.5 years...boy I feel terrible. Should I just use potty pads now?

I don't think you necessarily have to switch to potty pads. I think you need to find out the root cause of the worms. Either they are on the dogs, inside the dogs, or somewhere else in your apartment. I think I might order a new potty patch though.

They are given monthly frontline plus, but not heartguard...so I should do a fecal then? Is there a specific fecal? I had called a vet previously they had two different fecal tests. One in the vet and the other in the lab. Last time they were given a dewormer, we actually wanted a fecal test, but they wouldn't do it unless they were exhibiting symptoms where they have worms...they both didn't show symptoms but I wanted to get it as a safety precaution. Currently, they both don't have worms in their poop and are eating not a lot...the maggots are underneath the grass. I flipped the grass over to take the pictures.

We do have two patch. Never had such a problem until we move to this apartment...do you think it's the apartment or the area? We used the patch since they were 6 months old. My bf says that there weren't these "things" when they used the patch at his house. I thought it was because I wasn't cleaning it often enough, but today I checked, they are already there and I just washed last week! I may just end up taking them outside from now on. Next place we get, we will have to find one with a yard.

If a dog is on frontline, it will prevent fleas from biting the skin. It will not prevent the dog from ingesting a flea - that's the cause of tape worms.I would ask your vet about a fecal and if you should do a course of drontal. A regular dewormer wont always cover tapeworms.

I know you are saying it's not near their poop or them but I find it suspect that you are only seeing the worms in the potty patch -- are they anywhere else? The potty patch if washed regularly as you are doing and have been for 1.5 years seems to not be an environment to cultivate worms, especially if you are promptly picking up feces.

They are usually dead by the time I wash the patch, but now they are alive and moving, which creeps me out!! Can those maggots go into their skin? I'm more concerned with that than them a fecal because I highly doubt they have worms...

A dog not on monthly parasite prevention could indeed have worms. One flea swallowed is all it takes. I almost hope this is the issue, because that is an easy fix.

Yes maggots can go into their skin, there are members here who had to have maggots removed from their dogs.

Call the vet as soon as you can. An exterminator too.

omg I think that is what it is!! I just look at their butt, Carmel's penis, and Emma's vagina. There's nothing, all looks normal. Thank God!! Fortunately, I don't think it got onto Carmel and Emma, but now I'm scared it got onto me...I washed it before and saw them...if they got into my skin, I would know right...? I just checked my babies and there's nothing on them.
