I used the onesies on my females and they used pee pads. I just positioned it so they could still go potty. If they did have an accident I had several and just put a clean one on. I think those hard cones are so stressful on them. Hopefully she will leave the stitches alone and not need to wear the cone.

I used a onesie and cut a hole in it as shown in the picture below. To explain what you are seeing, this portion of the onesie is the part that is between the end of her back and would go over her bum, through her back legs, and snap to the end of her tummy. If you were holding the onesie up by the shoulders and looking at the back of it with the snaps undone, this would be the part that hangs down at the bottom. At the top of the hole is where her tail would be. This leaves her tail, anus and genitals exposed, but the snaps are still there to secure to the lower front of the onesie and keep it pulled down to protect the incision.

Be sure to buy a size that will still be a little loose, you wouldn't want it to rub on any stitches / incision.

This is easier than the cone, and still allows the incision to be protected from any licking or dirt/bacteria should they want to lay on the floor or grass.

Lucy did not come home with a cone nor did I need a onesie.

She never offered to bother with her stitches - other than licking herself occasionaly as they healed.

As long as you are with her and watching her - I would remove the cone if she's not bothering them too much.

Also, I agree, that she might need some pain Meds. Call the vet if you think she does.

It will be ok; gotta get through this rough patch and it's awful when they don't feel good.

She may be in pain.
My vet gave me Rimadyl, for Riley and told me to give it to him day and night until it was gone, even if I didn't think he needed it.....

I didn't have to use anything when I was able to watch him. He wasn't really a licker or scratcher. I used the onsie at night and when I was at work.....only cause I couldn't keep an eye on him......
At night, he was in his x-pen at that time and would cry when he had to go potty so I would just let him out, unsnap him, he would go potty, then I would put the onsie right back on and back into the x-pen he would go.

The Vet did send me home with a cone, and she said,he can pee, poop, eat, sleep, and do Absolutely Anything he normally does, and not to let him make me think he couldn't. LOL!!

This is what I did also. Worked like a charm! Measure length of you pup, and buy a size onsie that matches. I had to go a size larger than some of you do. She was comfortable the whole time & able to potty anytime she felt the need.

when my girls were spayed they did not like the cone either I took it off and left it off they did not bother the stiches or lick them. They were fine with out it.

Poppy was spayed at the beginning of this month and I put a baby onesie and a long baby vest on her. She goes outside to potty though so I just unbuttoned the onesie when she needed to go out, but with the vest I didn't need to as it was long enough to cover her stitches but not too long so it stayed dry.
I didn't have a cone for her because my vet said he dosn't like to put them on dogs unless they are really licking the stitches a lot because sometimes it can make them depressed? I don't know. But Poppy didn't bother with her stitches that much, she cleaned them herself the first night then more or less left them alone. Just try putting a long t-shirt or dress on her. xx

WOW thanks everyone what GREAT advice!!! I went to pets at home yesterday and bought her this stuff like a bandage to lightly cover the stiches, i cover it with a soft pad and wrapped the bandage around her belly losely... seems to be working great she seems so much better without the cone and she is even wagging her tail again hehe!! I will go get her a onsie today to put on her... i can give it ago

Go to a Dollar Tree they have onesies there for a dollar. I hope she feels better soon.

I cut one of my husband's tube socks and used it as a belly band when Dizzee was spayed. Worked like a charm

Gia was too little and she kept moving the "cone" down to look like a skirt! LOL I finally took an Ace bandage and wrapped it around her and used a safety pin to fasten it. She loved it so much better and it didn't get in the way of her potty.
