HELP - Poppy was spayed!! Poppy got spayed yesterday and has a cone on her head, she keeps crying and i am sure its because she does not likie the cone on her head. Is there ANYTHING i can buy to stop her picking at herself so she can remove the cone? Poppy uses puppy pads so would still need something so she could go to the toilet. I was thinking a head band around her tummy a bit like a belly band ;) but we dont have belly bands over here because this is the uk :( Please can someone advise :( poor poppy is not eating because the cone is on her head xxxx |
Keep the cone on her just when you aren't watching her, or you can try a onesie for babies. |
I would get a onesie but then how will she go to the toilet? xxx |
Try a search for it on YT, spay and onesie. I know a lot of female yt owners that do this after a spay. |
Im sorry that poppy is not liking the cone! Sorry i dont have any advice... Coco didnt mind her cone |
You can cut a hole in it so she can pee, but you'll still have to watch that she doesn't try to pick at the incision through it. She is probably in pain. |
i don't know what to tell you, i guess a direrent cone might help, there is a YT memeber who sales cones made of fabric and the very usefull not only for spayed puppys but also to keep it in ur first aid box for future injures. here is the link. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ne-collar.html hope it helps!! |
Try taking the cone off when she's eating and when you are holding her. Just put it back on when you need to walk away. Ps: the onesie really isn't that difficult to manage for potty breaks. Just in snap it when you go put her on the pad. |
Did they give her any pain meds? Mikki was spayed recently and she didn't act like she was in pain at all. Of course, she had meds and was so sleepy. She slept most of the first day. By day 2, you couldn't tell anything was wrong with her. As far as the cone, I am going to be honest. I didn't buy one because I hate the plastic ones. By the time I realized I needed one it was too late to order the fabric ones. So, I didn't use it. Instead I held Mikki most of the day. I know I know she is spoiled. ;) That way she didn't bother her incision and I didn't have to deal with the cone. |
Both of my girls were spayed and my boys neutered and none of them wore a cone and I had no problems. Tessie had a bandage wrapped around her stitches for a few days but then we took it off, Sassy had inside stitches so she had nothing. The boys only had a few stitches. You need to do what you think is best. |
The onsie should have like 3 snaps just unsnap it when you take her to potty! |
ya did not have a cone when she was spayed and she never tried to go near her incision. There is a cream you can get it from the vet it is called Varitone cream, it tastes terrible and stops them from licking, I had to use it for Pixie |
Oh please get her the Softee Cone Collar. When Scooter had minor butt surgery he used it and it made a world of difference. |
Just remember she just had surgery in her belly. Try not to pick her up from just under her arms. When you pick her up hold her butt too. Try not to stretch her belly area. Good luck and I hope she feels better soon. |
