If this is an ACTUAL shelter,I am assuming that they are to be registered with SOMEBODY? If not registered then she has become a thief. Just on principal,a lawyer is a good idea.

I honestly think she saw $$$ because she's a yorkie. I asked how much her adoption fee was and she told me she didn't know yet, because she would have to see how much the spay was. If you're a shelter who routinely spays animals with a vet, wouldn't you know the vets costs?

I'm as confused as the rest of you.

I agree. But, I'm not sure why a shelter would take a dog without having proof that the person who turned it in had the authority to do so. I suppose the person who turned it in to them could have lied and said it was theirs, but from what the OP stated, it doesn't sound like this was the case.

I haven't even said anything about the OP's friend's husband. I hope he is being well taken care of. I can't imagine how frightened they must be at this time, and having to deal with this on top of it is just outrageous.

I haven't even said anything about the OP's friend's husband. I hope he is being well taken care of. I can't imagine how frightened they must be at this time, and having to deal with this on top of it is just outrageous.

The hospital was running some more MRIs and tests yesterday. They have him in a halo, and he has regained some feeling in his lower body. Just hoping and praying God heals him.

Im going to ask again,,,is this "shelter" actually lisenced and registered? If not then it is just theft and the police need to be called until they decide to show up. I would also like to reccomend a call to one of the local tv stations. If the lady is not for real then she REALLY does not want her face on tv.

Im thinking that this is a little more about dog theft,and $$$$ because she is a not only a full bred dog but one of the breeds that is the most popular.

Ugh, what a nightmare. Make sure you document all the B.S. they are putting you through. If it's a city-run shelter, they should be reported. If it's private, let the Better Business Bureau know.

I agree with what others have said about contacting the police. They should have been contacted immediately and gone there with the owner to claim her stolen dog. The more time that passes, the worse things will be. I know she is dealing with a lot right now, but if she cares about the dog she needs to address it immediately, which it appears she hasn't done. I don't have a very good feeling about this. The so called shelter owner is a real POS in my opinion. They should be working with the owner to get the dog back, but they are not interested in doing that. I'm sure it's all about the money!

I have not talked to Jana ( tinker bells owner) since Wednesday evening. She was supposed to go to the shelter yesterday to see about getting her back, but i don't know if that happened or not. She did call the police Wednesday after I spoke to the shelter manager, and they were supposed to contact the manager. Having not spoke to Jana, I am not sure what has transpired.
I spoke to her husband last night, who said she had left earlier in the day to go handle some errands and things in the business office at the hospital.

Unfortunately I have nothing to update. I will update when I know something.

I did find out that The shelter is private owned. I have to been able to find out any information on it, other than the address. It's a private residence. I spoke to a humane society officer in Greenville, and he told me that he's never had a complaint of her 'stealing' a dog per se, but that he wouldn't swear that it doesn't happen. He also said her adoption fees are rather high, but she claims to be a no-kill shelter, so people in small communities talk and she gets animals by word of mouth.

So then she could be a hoarder, or a fake rescue. Isn't there some kind of license you need to have if your residence is a "rescue"? I occasionally foster, and my county sent me a letter saying if I am fostering, and have more than 4 dogs, I have to have a kennel license (I forget how much but it was more than $100). If she's posing as a rescue, I'd see if she has such a license. Many fake rescues have obscenely high "rehoming" or "adoption" fees. In CA, which everything is expensive, adopting from a govt shelter is about $90 incl spay/neuter, and utd on all shots.
