Water in ears?

Vet said Chloe has yeast infection from water in ears. How do I bath without getting water in ears? Also, vet said to use vinegar to rid yeast infection. Anyone know of this? Any suggestions on bathing? I wash the top of her head, the ears are there! How do I do that without water getting in ears? Please HELP!! Thank you all!

If you find an answer please let me know. My dogs shake their head a lot after they have a bath, but usually if I take them to the vet they don't have an ear infection. I will try the vinegar. Do you use white vinegar?

I have a nozzel attachment on my sink that I rince with, but when I do Gizmo's head I always use a washcloth to wet the top of his head and when doing the ears, I take my thumb and kind of fold the ear to block the opening, when soaping around the ears and rinsing. Never had any water get in the ear canal at all.

I have heard that groomers use cotton balls in the ears but I have never tried that. I do put a squirt of ear cleansing solution by VET Solutions (I can buy at Walmart now) after bathing. Maybe I have just been lucky but, none of my Yorkies have ever had ear problems.

The vet said Apple Cider Vinegar. I will attempt a cotton ball in ears, but she's VERY wiggly so wish me luck!

braggs apple cider vinegar is best.
Also grape seed extract. I worked in a birth center and this is what we recommended to moms who had a yeast infection and didn't want to use medications.

Toto had an ear infection, years ago, and after her vet got it cleared up I have used ear plugs and have never had another problem. I always let the vet pluck her ears because I don't trust anyone else to do it. The plugs I use are the little round, firm ones that you roll up tiny and they expand in the ear. The only problem I have had is remembering to take them out after her bath!

Dust the inside of the ear with Flowers of Sulphur...used it for years on clients dogs who had chronic ear problems...had a vet call me once and wanted to know how I cleared an infection in a dog he had treated for 2yrs...off and on yeast infection..
You put the powder in a bottle like you use for coloring hair and gently puff in the ear..do not clog it, just dust it...horse people use it...

Thanks for all these suggestions, I knew about the cotton balls but the dogs hate them

Thank you, Pat, I will make note of that. I tried the cotton balls and found that water seeped in anyway ... I probably didn't insert them correctly. I did find it interesting that their little ear canal goes so deep. Fortunately, she has only had one infection in her life but I understand it's quite common in lots of breeds.

Our vet said to soak a half cotton ball (for each ear) in alcohol and squeeze it in the ears after a bath to dry up the water. This works great for Nala. I also dry the inside of her ears with the blow dryer on low and she seems to think that feels good.

Cotton balls during bath and a drying/cleaning solution when finished to prevent them.

I don't like the idea of my pup smelling like vinegar. To treat yeast infections, I use meds.

Cali will be 3 in September and is bathed weekly or sometimes more often if she get really dirty - I have never had ear problems - I cut a cotton ball in half and roll it into a cylinder and put one in each ear. If I think I got any water in the ears I somtimes put a tiny drop of alcohol in each ear. No, she does not like the cotton put in her ears and sometimes shakes them out LOL, and they may be damp/wet when you take them out, but they do block most of the water it seems.

Of course we do lots of treats and kisses, too!

I've never had water issues in his ear, yet, as far as I know. He swims weekly in my dads pool and often gets his head under when he dives in and he's never had issues, plus weekly baths.

So I am no help! But this info is good to know for future reference.

I've tried cotton balls in the ears but it seems like it just soaks up and draws water INTO the ears which defeats the purpose. Like others have said, I just fold the ear flap down to cover the ear while rinsing the head. I've tried drying solutions but Bullet hates it, and Rio hasn't really had any ear issues. Vinegar sounds like a good natural solution, but not too keen on the smell!
