| ![]() We have 6 dogs living in our house. I think the only reason that it works is Mina (yorkie) is mine,2bits(70lbmix) belongs to my son,Skittles (poodle) belongs to my oldest daughter who does not live here, but visits. He has bonded with my husband as well,Buddie (poodle)belongs to my middle daughter,Amigo (Chi) belongs to my youngest daughter and Taffy (pom) belongs to my mother who lives in a facility. Taffy is 10yrs old and we all try to love on her some each day. She was an only child up to 2yrs ago,so her adjustment has been the hardest. Although 2bits is 14yrs old he trys to play with Mina, the poodles are 9yrs old and they play with Mina. Amigo is 6yrs old and he has been the most standoffish because until Mina came into the house he was the baby. I guess the reason that this all works is 2bits and Taffy are the only ones that have ever been an only child. When we brought 2 poodle puppies home at the same time I was abit worried about how 2bits would handle it,but he loved being a big brother. I guess we were very lucky that he loves the little ones so much. House training Mina has been a snap because she just does what the rest of the pack does. She came to me weeweepad trained and wont have anything to do with them because noone else uses them. Maybe if you had a friend that could come visit for a weekend with their baby,of if you took care of someone elses baby for a day or two,you would be able to tell better if your baby would be receptive to the idea. |

| ![]() I'm pretty happy with one. MOST of the time. There are some days where I REALLY want a second dog. But I'm trying to be patient, wait for the right time, the perfect dog. I want to, first and foremost, make sure that Jackson is happy. If I got a dog that was basically ruining his life after a long period of time, I would not hesitate to rehome the added one, as bad as that sounds. But Jackson is my first priority so when looking for another dog, he will be first in my mind. With my current lifestyle, I admit one is easier. I have a feeling if I added a second, I would end up leaving BOTH at home as opposed to taking just one, if it was only possible to take one, if you know what I mean. I am also a dogsitter and bring Jackson with me every day to walk and play with the other dogs... with adding a second, it would no longer be possible, so that's another factor in my decision. Both would have to stay home, but they would be exercised still obviously. I bring Jackson with me on vacations, trips, etc, and it's very easy.

| ![]() It would take some time for her to get use to the new addition, as long as you dont have high expections for them to become fast friends, it would be fine. Eventually she will adjust. I have one that is very jelous, but it doesn't stop me from bringing in new additions. He (Mr. Jelous man, does fine) Also keep in mind that bringing in a new one will help keep her young ![]() |

| ![]() I know this is an older post but I wanted to add to it. And I hope some of you will too that might have missed it. I recently added Mikki to our family. Rosie was an only furbaby for 4 years. Most of you know how Mikki ended up with me. With that said, I want to say that I do think adding another is doable! ![]() ![]() ![]() Ellie May, didn't you just add a new furbaby too? Maybe you could chime in here? Dispatcher, you added a new one too right?

| ![]() This is a,' no one answer, is right for everyone question' So here is my opinion based on my own experience. I have 4 yorkies and a Lab. Yes 5 dogs. I am saying this with humor but truthfully too. Like having children, more children is more expensive, more time consuming, and more problems on a daily basis. I think an only Yorkie, would be perfectly happy to have all the people attention. You can spoil and pamper one Yorkie, because they do not have to, grow up, go to college, get a job or do anything in the world . They can stay an only furkid forever. But add just one more, then they must share attention and so on. Yes dogs are pack animals but, I don't think they are always happier when the pack (family) includes other dogs. We are the Pack leader so it is up to us to decide how many members we have. When I ah... aw.. over a sweet little puppy, My friend laughs and says ' remember Yorkies are not like shoes, they can not be exchanged, replaced, stuck in a closet,or given away, because you fell in love with cute and didn't check to see if they really fit.' I love my babies and wouldn't give one up for anything. I grudgingly admit my life was easier when I had one, I mean two, ah.. I think three was when.... sigh........ |

I hope if you wont mind if I simply agree with you. I have 6 dogs, most are now middle aged and acquiring health issues, one is 15,large and decreped but so not ready to not be here, one is a baby. Would I do it again no, do I regret acquiring so many, some of which are actual brothers, absolutely NOT. As long as you realize that several babys at the same time will become old together as well and may become ill at the same time and you are prepared to still care for them, then yes it works. But like anything else it comes with pleasure and difficulty. | |

| ![]() I did just add another one after saying for years that I wouldn't because it wouldn't be fair to Ellie. I knew another Yorkie wouldn't work out for us because a lot of them just love hours on your lap and that would have made Ellie miserable. One of my all time favorite breeds (PBGV) came up in a rescue here (well, it was a stray but he looks just like one). Couldn't say no. Ellie hates him, snaps at him, but she is learning. They have started to play and look so darn cute. I think it helped Ellie that it was a male and not a female. After two weeks I don't feel like we have put too much stress on Ellie over it and don't regret my decision.

| ![]() Life is much simpler with one yorkie - I do miss the freedom of being able to take Darwin into places quietly. Haven't figured how to do this since Mabel has come along. On the other hand, when I see them racing around the house, playing, two is great and I think they add to each other's lives beautifully. I don't think there is a perfect answer as you never know how dogs will interact with another. |
