| Wanting to add another Yorkie I have been thinking about adding another Yorkie to our family. I have a few questions and concerns. Looking forward to some input on these points. My Yorkie is 9 years old and has always been the only furbaby in the house. She is so attached to me. Do older furbabies handle the new arrival? How can I help the transition? Will they sleep in the same place or will they need seperate areas? Food? Mrs. Beasley is on a special diet. She also eats all her food at one time. I am thnking about getting a rescue. I want a female about 5 years old. My thinking is a puppy will be too rowdy for a nine year old. I am a teacher and about to be off for the summer. This may help with the transition. Thank you all for your input.

| Hmmm..toughy!! Well, heres my personel experiance... My baby Bevo is only 2 1/2...we have recently added a new baby to the family and it appears that Bevo thinks he is human and will have NOTHING to do with the new baby boy Mac....Maybe hes just weird...but I think being an only furbaby for so long has had an impact!! Good luck!

Do you think it makes a difference that you added a new puppy instead of an adult? I am always looking to add a new yorkie myself. Very interested to see the answers here. Ladyjane where are you?

YT Addict | Ah! I wondered about this too when I added Tikka. Female dogs I think have more problems as far as wanting attention all to themselves, they don't handle being intruded on when their relationship with you is strong. Esp. by other females. I think your best bet would be trying a male, see if anyone has a yorkie or small dog they would let you baby sit for a weekend to see how your girl does. She may love it, she may not be too fond of the idea. We had a male pom first, he is very independent and keeps to himself. When we added Tikka right away we realized how needy she is! Always whining, and crying, and wanting on my lap, wanting to play with me... etc. Also if I'm petting Pooter then she HAS to be up on my lap too, and will pretty much kick him off. I wouldn't add a puppy either if you say your girl is very attatched to you, she may feel neglected with all the time you'll have to spend with the puppy. Rescue would be great if you can provide the care it may need My dogs love to cuddle with eachother, so they share a kennel when need be, unless one is sick then depending on the sickness, I don't. As far as food, I'm working on that issue too, so I can't say much haha

| My little Cricket thought she was my human child too. She didn't really want to associate w other dogs much. She would love to torture the cat, though (steal its toys, eat its food, sit and stare at it). |

| At 9 years old, your transition of adding a puppy might be a little more difficult. Ringo was four when we added Lucy and even he tired of the puppy antics rather quickly ~ your nine year old girl will too. I second the idea of an opposite sex dog and perhaps an older dog if you can find one. They will need their own spaces at first ~ your girl will need a place for peace and quiet where she can get away from the newcomer. At some point, they may want to sleep in the same space but they may not. Honestly, at 9, I'm not sure she will appreciate having to share you. How is she around other dogs?

She doesn't like other dogs anywhere around me. She even gets between me and the gradnkids. I can be playing a game or reading to them and she wiggles her way between us and face them. (she just torrerates my Husband. But he says if I'm not around she likes him)

| I have babysat my sister's furbaby - Blueduck is 13 and a quiet gentleman. She torrerates him, is jealous, and watches his every move. If he get too close to me or around the food she has a barking fit. However after about two days she calms down and will let him lay on the recliner with us.

| We bought 2 Yorkie Male pups into a home with a 14 yar old Yorkie Female and an 11 year old Cane Corso. Do a correct introduction at first, and then gradually introduce them. The Cane Corso likes them, and naturally they pick on him, and jump on him, and chew on his huge Nylabones and Toys He is very careful around them and gentle, and at 135 pounds, it is hard for him to be gentle. THe 14 year old Yorkie female wants nothing to do with them. They buzz around her like bee's, and she will snap and bark at htem, but they are already gone and she is still spinning trying to find them as her eye sight is going. She is also on a special diet, and we eats where she always has in the kitchen, and has free rein of the house, and on the couch when we sit there. The new boys eat in their X-Pens, and are allowed out every few hours to run and play, and they are out all evening playing, and when they start getting tired, we bring them on the couch and hold them until asleep as they are jumpers and no jumping. Overall, we are glad we have the new boys, more work, but more fun. It can be done, just do it slow, and always treat your older dog as the number one dog. That is what we do, and it works. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I had a older female pom when I brought 9 week old Cali home. My pom was very independent and a loner. Cali didn't bother her she was more interested in people. Then we brought in Pixie a year and a half later who was 13 months. She decided Maya my pom was going to be her best friend and proceeded to plop down in between her legs and that's where she spent a lot of her time. Maya let her. Then we brought in Roxie and her and Pixie became best buddies. They occasionally picked on Cali but nothing to bad and that has stopped now. So all my females get along. I don't know if it is just luck or their personalities. When I took in Nikki (approx 17 year old rescue male) he took an instant dislike to Cali (who is the sweetest girl) and will attack her sometimes when she comes by me. I think his issues have more to do with his unknown past and an over attachment to me than male vs female. So I think alot has to do with the personalities of the dogs more than the sex. I think the right rescue would be great. Good luck in your decision.

| When I added my 2nd little girl Patti I brought her in and bathed her immediately in the same shampoo as Sassy. Got her dryed and introduced them. They have been the best pals every since. I was told if you do that they except each other quite well. Have a great day and good luck. Linda, Sassy and Patti |

| Thanks for all of your imput. There are pros and cons to adding another furbaby. I'm not sure if I will get Mrs. Beaslie a fursister or not. I have a lot of things to consider first. Thank you again, Jan
