I second the idea of an opposite sex dog and perhaps an older dog if you can find one.
They will need their own spaces at first ~ your girl will need a place for peace and quiet where she can get away from the newcomer.
At some point, they may want to sleep in the same space but they may not.
Honestly, at 9, I'm not sure she will appreciate having to share you.

She doesn't like other dogs anywhere around me.
She even gets between me and the gradnkids. I can be playing a game or reading to them and she wiggles her way between us and face them. (she just torrerates my Husband. But he says if I'm not around she likes him)
