I had a older female pom when I brought 9 week old Cali home. My pom was very independent and a loner. Cali didn't bother her she was more interested in people. Then we brought in Pixie a year and a half later who was 13 months. She decided Maya my pom was going to be her best friend and proceeded to plop down in between her legs and that's where she spent a lot of her time. Maya let her. Then we brought in Roxie and her and Pixie became best buddies. They occasionally picked on Cali but nothing to bad and that has stopped now. So all my females get along. I don't know if it is just luck or their personalities. When I took in Nikki (approx 17 year old rescue male) he took an instant dislike to Cali (who is the sweetest girl) and will attack her sometimes when she comes by me. I think his issues have more to do with his unknown past and an over attachment to me than male vs female. So I think alot has to do with the personalities of the dogs more than the sex. I think the right rescue would be great. Good luck in your decision.
