| ![]() I have a girl, Callie and she is extremely attached to me. Callie also is not extremely independent except in her own yard and house. If we go to the dog park she will play but continuously turn around and check on me or come over and hit me with her nose and runs away to play again. I have heard of females being more stubborn and I agree with that because Callie can be VERY stubborn sometimes. My mom rescued a male yorkie and he is pretty chill but not much of a cuddler at least not yet. We have a terrible time finding clothes for him though unless custom made they have to be cut and stitched or he will pee on it.

| ![]() I like male dogs better in my experience in the past few years as a dogsitter. The few females I've watched were, well, bitches, lol. I guess they have their name for a reason. My dads dog, Lily, for example loves to cuddle, give kisses and be loved on. But if you go in to pet her when she doesn't want you to, she will growl, walk away or give attitude. She is also is the most stubborn and doesn't wanna listen to a word you say. I grew up with female dogs and we always loved them to death of course but they were definitely very independent. They liked to be with us on their own terms. Jackson is obviously a boy and while I wouldn't say he's cuddly (he'd prefer not to be held for long periods of time) but he's super attached to me. He follows me from room to room, at night he does snuggle in close with me, and in the morning he loves his attention when we first wake up. He's super willing to please me. I don't really know how to explain it, but I connect better with boy dogs. I don't think I'll ever own a girl again. It's not that I don't like girl dogs... and there's always an exception to every "rule" obviously. If the right dog came up and it was a girl, I wouldn't turn her down of course. Boys have just become my preference.

| ![]() In my experience with both cats and dogs, little girls love you, but the little boys are in love with you.

YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() All of my little ones have been females. My little girls are extremely attached to me and very sweet. Both of them are lap furbies. They are on my lap right now. They love their Daddy, but they prefer being with me.

| ![]() I have heard this very debate over every species of animal and I do for the most part believe there is a lot to it generally speaking. Since I have not heard personality mentioned I think some people just click better with one sex or the other based on overall personality. I prefer females though but I don't really know if there is a specific reason. I think my girls are loyal and cuddle with me as much as I would ever want them to. As far as them "choosing" who they prefer in my house, well, I've never had that issue. Every one in my house thinks our dogs belong to them..........unless I'm around ![]() ![]() ![]()

| ![]() I have both but...I prefer females...My girls are always very snuggly, loving and attached to me. They love DH too...but they are Momma's girls. Harley is all of the above and more but as soon as DH walks in the door, us girls are kicked to the curve and he is all about Daddy ![]()

Donating YT 500 Club Member | ![]() I think it depends on the personality. Taycie does like to have her own space but it is still usually on my bed a few feet away ![]() This was not always the case as a puppy.. When she about 7 months old she started to mature I guess? She always followed me and she has always liked to carried but that is when I noticed she actually wanted me to cuddle her! I am a stomach sleeper and I always wake up to her sprawled out on my back.. if I roll over she is on my stomach.. then some nights she curls up in a little ball right next to my head. Where ever I go she follows sits or sleep and she loves to perch herself on my shoulder. If I am on the couch she rests on my shoulder like a little bird. Its really cute ![]() Again, I think it depends on the dog, every pup is different ![]()

| ![]() I don't have experience with females but my boy Oliver is soooo attached to my boyfriend! He makes fun of me sometimes because I'll want to cuddle and Oliver will have nothing to do with me! But yes he is very cuddly in general, but not sure if he is more so than a female would be ![]()

| ![]() I have had two male Yorkies - my first long ago and my Tibbe now, with Jilly, a female, in the middle. I cannot tell you in good conscience that one was any cuddlier or more bonded with me than the other. Each relationship has been distinct and quite different but each of them so loving in their own way. Scotty, my first was super loving and so cute. My Jilly might have been the sweetest dog in the world. I guess my current dog, Tibbe, a male, is my smartest, cuddliest Yorkie and requires a lot more lap time than the other two, but as he was essentially a rescue, that may be part of it. I think he just needs more reassurance due to his former crate life. And being a neutered male, he has never marked in the house and is completely house trained. I don't see how you can go wrong whichever sex you chose.

| ![]() I do find boys are much much more affectionate and cuddly- girls can be lovers too, but until you actually HAVE a boy, you can't understand- it is a totally different kind of devotion.

| ![]() im talking one side since my 3 last yorkies were boys (getting my first female tomorrow, yayayayay!) my boys are very affectionate and definitely are momma's boys...they love to cuddle. my latest riley is a kissie monster! johnny was very independent tho...wanted to be next to me, but not on me. training wise, 2 out 3 boys were so easy to potty train with treat encouragement, mickey never ever grasped it..it was a constant fight. riley is the totally package, loving, affectionate and trained very easy! so it seems to every rule there is exceptions...think it depends on the dogs personality much more than the sex..but once again...ive never owned a girl!

| ![]() You know what I've noticed? Most dog movies star male dogs.... just a few that come to mind: K-9, Air Bud, Homeward Bound (both male dogs, plus female cat), Far From Home, Hachi: A Dog's Tale, Marley & Me, Underdog, Beethoven, Benji, Bingo, The Shaggy Dog, Shiloh, Milo & Otis, Firehouse Dog, Old Yeller, My Dog Skip... just to name a few, LOL. I think in the training world, males are known to be easier to train?
