Generalizations - Male vs Female Since I have been thinking about a new pup, I was wondering on what you guys have found out by experience? I have read that females seem less attached (are more independent) and usually are closer to male humans. I have found my Layla to definitely be much more attached to my boyfriend than myself. Alas, I wanted another female because she and Layla could interchange clothes, etc., but I would hate to end up getting my boyfriend another dog! lol. In essense, is it possible for me to find a female that will be affectionate and attached to me, despite me being a female? I am really crossing my fingers! What do you guys think? Share your experiences, please! :) |
My male is very attached to me and my female enjoys us both. If I were to get another, I would get another male because of how cuddly and lovey Couver is with me. Good luck in your decision!! |
I've read that females are more independent and males more cuddly, but that has never been my personal experience. My current & previous yorkie were both female & both were/are cuddly, love to snuggle on my lap, follow me everywhere in the house, pups. I've been thinking of getting another yorkie recently too! If I do, I'll definately get another female, that can share all the clothes & bows :) |
My boys are definitely the lovers. Daisy likes us, but she likes her space. I will often find my boys lying together and she will be in her house seeking refuge from them. She just would rather be in her house with her ball than with her humans or her fur-siblings. |

My female is very affectionate to both me and my husband. I think you should pick a pup on its personality rather than its sex because I dont believe all females are more attached to a male owner. It didnt work out that way for us. Also I have cats and with cats there is a common belief that the males are affectionate and the females are more independent but I have affectionate very dependent females so I dont go by common beliefs when picking out a pet |
2 Attachment(s) Well I have the best of both worlds. One I can dress in pink and one in blue and I love it. They both love cuddles and they have their special sitting place, Tia in the crook of my arm and Olly takes the lap. Heres a pic. Attachment 341327 Attachment 341328 |

I have a little girl and she is very attached to me. Loves to sleep beside me and cuddle in my lap ! |
I believe your generalization is entirely true, it has been in my experience, but my son's dog is a male and they are 'partners in crime' :D The boys here love me, and my daughter; our female prefers men, but it's a generalization, our female is definitely Dad's dog, but loves me and there are tons on women on here with females who love them over men. I will throw my two cents in male/female get them altered two females will buck for which is 'top bitch' at some point...so having even two altered females in important...an unaltered female will drive even an altered male into girl crazy behavior. Both males & females "mark" I say find the right breeder buy them, then do a meet and greet with your female and find the right addition for all of you male or female. |
My boy, Buzz, is, definitely, more of a snuggle bug, than my girl, Apple...Apple likes to be loved on, when she first wakes up, and right before she goes to sleep...Buzz will stop whatever he's doing for a pet or a snuggle... |
It's definitely too much of a generalization. I had met three Yorkies before getting Ellie and chose a girl from my experience with the others. I've heard the boys can be really snuggly, but my girl is the snuggliest dog I've ever met. She can be independent and loves to play, but she could spend hours in the crook of an arm. And she doesn't like many males - at all - in fact, she hates them... |
My little girl isn't very snuggly. She LOVES attention, but won't sit still very long curled up on your lap or next to you. However, I have a male Lhasa/Pom mix who is very content to just last next to you. They are complete opposites ;) |
