How much should she weigh at 5 wks Ok, I am going to see Tuckers future girlfriend tomorrow..(hopefully if all goes well she will be ours) Anyways, I plan on breeding her and tucker once for puppies for my family, but I want to make sure that she is not going to be under 5lbs. Tucker is almost 16wks and he weighs 2lbs 4oz.. I will be bringing her home at 6wks so what should she weigh at 6wks to make sure that she will not be to small... She is the smallest of the litter..Her mother weighed 9lbs 3 days after they were born but she doesn't look that big..The father weighs 6lbs of muscle and he doesn't look that big...He is real short..What should she weigh at 6wks to make sure that she will be 5lbs or more.. Last week she weighed 8oz at 4wks...

| This is just a quess on my part but I think she will be big enough to breed. You said she was 8 oz at 4 weeks so I am quessing she will be about a lb at 8 wks. My Jewels was 12 oz at 8 wks and she is 5 lbs now. The weight of the mother and father is also a factor. So I think she will be about 5 or 6 lbs.

puppy Wow, getting the puppy at 6 weeks is a really young pup. Puppies learn socialzation from 5-8 weeks. A good breeder will keep them until they're 12 weeks old. My Brandy was a rescue who I got when she was 5 weeks old. She has major attitude and she does not like playing with other dogs. Is there anyway you can talk the lady into keeping her longer so you will have a better socialized and more healthy puppy? There are weight charts you can check for the weight. Just make sure you read everything about breeding and know to seperate them while she is young if he is sexually mature (some start young, my pug was 5 months when he started.) He could end up hurting her. Congratulations on your new puppy.

where do I find a weight chart? The breeder is willing to keep my puppy longer but she will not keep the littermates longer and my puppy will not be socialized with ANYONE or any dog while there so the sooner I get her the better.. I don't work so she will be well socialized with me...

6 weeks This is nothing more then Las Vegas..a total gamble..how is your luck as a rule? How can you know at 6 weeks a dog is breed quality..I guess I am nit picking again... I would run in the opposite direction from any breeder who lets a pup leave at 6 weeks. This pup is barely weaned and still needs it's mother and littermates...having said that, best wishes I know you are caring, but the breeder stinks.

| idk, it seems kinda fishy to be honest. any good breeder would never ever let thier babies go at 6wks, 12 wks is the earliest for a good breeder. my honest opinion look for another breeder, you do not want to get this baby and end up having health issues later for lack of mom's milk and what not. but incase you do decide for it is ultimatley your decision, i would say that she should be big enough, but i could be wrong for i am not a breeder.

All 3 of Mollie's pups weighed betweed 2 & 2 1/2 lbs at 6 weeks. I took Wyatt to the vet today for his rabies shot and he weighed 4.2 lbs @ 15 weeks. I really think he weighs closer to 3-3 1/2 lbs. I could be wrong. I don't remember what Mollie weighed at that age. She will be 2 in Jan. and she weighs between 6 & 6 1/2 lbs. Sorry wish I could be of more help.

Well I am only looking to breed one time as my father is recovering from cancer and cannot afford to buy one and really wants one.. Thiis was the agreement my husband and I made. We are only breeding for my father.. The other puppies will be given to close friends or family and then my dogs will be fixed. I do not want to hurt my female so I want to make sure that she is big enough..As for the breeder, the way I look at it is if I do not get the puppy and take care of it then someone who is clueless might.. Or even worse, a puppy mill may buy her and leave her in a cage forever.....Atleast I am prepared and have some knowledge and lots of Nutrical, a good vet, I don't work so I have plenty of time.. You can't change the way some breeders are, but atleast I know that if she comes to live with me she will forever be warm and cozy with a full belly and LOTS OF LOVE....Besides, Tucker is still a baby also so he can somewhat help her to not feel completely alone...Think of where she could end up and then you will understand me......

I know a lot of breeders that let their puppies leave at the age of 6 weeks.I think this is way to early. I would say with the puppys parents being both over 5 lbs theres a good chance the puppy will be 5 lbs and more. but theres really know way of knowing for sure at this young age.

Trust me I do know how much you might want this little girl. But if you could ask the breeder to hold her for you at least for another 3 -4 weeks. I'm only speaking from my experience. I got a little female yorkie when she was 8 wks old and she was too young. She cried a lot and was very tiny. The first one I got was already a little over 12 wks old when I got him and he has been the best pet I've ever had. I would love to see your little angel as soon as you get pictures of her. Good luck with her and please post pics when you get your little baby home. Genie

The problem with leaving her with the breeder longer is this.. The breeder is going to sell the littermates at 6wks so when they are gone, and they will be, then my little girl will be all by herself until she comes home with me.. The breeder has a garage that is heated and cooled and that is where all the parents live.. I do not condone the fact that the parents are only socialized when they are being groomed or fed but I am not leaving that little girl alone. Either I will get her or let them sell her.. I got Tucker from them and he was 8wks..He is the best dog ever!! Although their kennel is clean and they take great medical care of their pets, they do not have any that live in the home with humans.. I have tried to get them to sell me one of the adults but they refuse.. They are not kept in cages all day, they get the yard and have runs, but they don't get love.. Just because the parents are not socialized, does not mean that the puppies are bad.. With Tucker being here and me being home, I know that she will be fine.. I know what to look for so I can take great care of her...

puppy I consider this puppy a "rescue"..and in a case like this, probably better to get the pup as young as possible so it can be socialized. 12 weeks with a breeder who does not socialize it is a bigger problem then letting it go too young. Best wishes
