| A big thank you to your brother for being so kind to pick her up. Yes, you are very correct in it being better that you guys picked up the puppy...What an opportunity for you to teach your child how to correctly help a lost animal...As everyone has suggested you can get the puppy scanned for free. And if you couldn't do it until the 3rd I would phone the shelter or rescue unit in your area. They will even come to you,,they would also be able to have the puppy vet checked to be sure she doesn't have anything going on as their health can change just about as quickly as their coat can become matted..Also you and your child could make a large poster to place in your yard announcing lost puppy found and being cared for here...Even if you surrender the puppy I would place the poster so the family that is possibly looking for the puppy could stop and you could tell them where their baby is at....what a lesson your child can learn..It teaches that you don't just keep something you found but to try to return it to it's rightfull owner that is missing it...!!!! Thank you for having a kind heart and caring for this little one..It would be so easy to just look away!!! |

| I would hope if one of my four babies was out wandering around that someone would be kind enough to take care of them until I could find them. Mine are never outside without a leash, but they were on the deck 2 weeks ago that is fenced and gated. My husband accidently left the gate open and before I knew it all 4 had run away. I was hysterical but by the grace of God all 4 came running when I called them. This was only about 10 minutes so I hate to think what the owners are feeling right now. Thank you for taking care of this baby and hopefully she will be back home soon. Maybe she doesn't live around there and has been out wandering for a while. God Bless you and your brother.

Nothing says this pup wasn't supervised and loved or that she was out on a rainy, crummy day. She may have gotten out when it was nice out because she could have been missing for longer than just that day or perhaps she piddles outside and got out on a potty break, who knows? I know you care about her and that's why you might be passing judgment upon the original owners. You just feel bad for the poor little thing that you found matted and cold. That is totally understandable and really really honorable. I bet she's thrilled you brought her in and kudos to you for taking the responsibility on! I hope you find her family soon. | |

I consider myself to be a very responsible pet owner and ALL THREE of mine got out of the yard last spring. My son left the gate open and they were gone. They were only gone for less than an hour and they looked like orphans, matted, dirty, panting and thirsty when they were found. So to assume that this puppy was not loved could be a huge mistake. Many lost pets will have Here are a few ideas how to reunite a found pet with their owners. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ir-owners.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ie-poster.html You can take her to your vet or local shelter to be scammed for a microchip for FREE. They want dogs to be reunited with their owners and are very willing to help. You can even send flier to all of your local businesses and they will very willingly post them for you. Please do not wait to try to find this puppies owner. They are probably sick with worry just as we all would be if one of our babies was missing. Keep us posted on how your search goes tomorrow. We are all hoping that you are able to reunite her with her owners and that you will be a hero with a happy ending.

Thank you for that, Jodi! I would be BEYOND beside myself if my matted not too thin baby escaped from me for even 15 minutes before someone rescued her into another home!! Please check that chip. Unless you plan to never vet ever in her life.....the issue WILL come up!

| While reading a thread "My baby is missing and I don't know what to do" I also found myself thinking, "that would never happen to me" about 3 mths later, I was going to bath Joey, and while brushing him and removing his collar, I looked out the window and it was a pretty day, (in winter with snow) I though I should let him enjoy the sunshine and let him go potty... I let him out and went to put the towels in the dryer to warm, went back out for him and he was gone...After checking the fence 5 times and posting signs, calling hubby and putting it on the radio, I went around the fence for the 6th time and found a 3-4" gap where the fence met the bbq wall and he could have slipped thru it...He was gone for 4 hours but went deer hunting to the pasture field over the hill from our home..He looked a mess, he had 4 inches of snow around his matted feet and looked a total mess..you would think no one ever cared for the little guy,,,yes, he needed his bath but was not in bad shape and had just been brushed before leaving..so their condition can change quickly...If I found one that looked like him,,I would be thinking no one cared for him..But truth is I would still be out there looking for him with the flashlight knocking on every door until I did..and they can travel so far so quickly..that is why I would phone the shelters, vets, groomers etc..this little guy is now 2 years old and still the love of my life.... |

| Thank you all for your help. I believe this little one was not out too long after all. She looks very healthy , food wise . My guess is that she is around 5-6 months old. I did give her a bath , she was very smelly as well as extremely matted. the poor pup just had so much dirt and sand on her . I also gave her a groom before the bath. That took a couple hours just for that. She has a docked tail.... Discovering this really made my mind up. Someone did lose her accidently , and if that was me I would be devastated. Just because she was filthy and matted perhaps just means she may have crawled out under a fence or something. I know in my heart I cannot just keep her. I hope I can bring her home to her "real' family and they make sure it does not happen again. I did go all around the neighborhood and saw nothing posted yet. but people could of been working, and not even know she is missing. After cleaning her up and obviously well fed puppy makes me know that your all right in telling me to seek out the owner asap. The vet is closed today for the holiday, but their is a dog pound that might be able to scan her, or know of the family looking for her. I am not allowed to have anther dog where I live... the 2 I have are service dogs. my niece just lost her pup recently to a illness . I cried so many tears over her death. Her family is most defintely heartbroken.
