Where did you get him from? Do you have pictures of him? Does he look like a Yorkie (except size)? Could he be a Yorkie mix? Some Yorkies will be larger due to being bred off-standard. Weight alone does not indicate whether or not he is a Yorkie. Have you taken him to a vet?

I don't understand what you are asking exactly? You will find many people on here with larger yorkies. My biggest one is about 13 lbs., yes she is over standard size, but is AKC registered and looks just like my others, just lots bigger.

Harley (as my two year has named him) was left on a coworkers doorstep on New Years Eve. She could not afford another mouth to feed so we decided that we would take him. As of yet I do not have pictures. He looks identical to every picture I have seen of yorkie and the vet says he is yorkie. The only difference is that his tail is huge and his weight. My aunt has a yorkie that is 2 years old and weighs just under three pounds. I'm just trying to find out if there has been maybe a larger size of yorkie or if they can get bigger than the standard 8 pounds as listed on wikipedia.

Welcome. I have read here about people having yorkies of different sizes. I would ask your vet if he is at a healthy weight. If he is at a healthy weight you just have a big boned yorkie or maybe a mix. My yorkie is small boned and sometimes I wish he was a bit bigger boned. His girlfriend weighs more and is quite the tank when they play so I wish he was a little more solid because I worry about him getting hurt if they roughhouse to much. I think you are wonderful for adding a 2 year old yorkie to your home. He will be a great companion. There just will be more to love.

It's very possible he is a mix also, since you really don't know his background. If you have a two year old, he seems like a perfect size.

Also I just saw a post that you have a two year old. I my opinion I think it would be better to have a slightly bigger dog with children. The little ones are so delicate your child would have to be more careful when playing with the yorkie.

| Welcome to YT My Kermit is 12.5 lbs. If your family has decided to give this dog a wonderful home, I don't understand where the conflict comes from. If he is full yorkie... great and if not..... great. More dog to love on !! I think it's a win win

See I've spoken with my aunt and she was jsut as confused as I. Being as hers isn't even three pounds and yet my Harley is close to 17 pounds its a bit confusing to say the least. I have no doubt at all that he is at least part yorkie. And I could care less if he is purebred or not. I was raised with mutts and rescue dogs so pedigree is not a neccessity to me. Whomever owned him last took good care of him. Other than having a bit of dry skin and a little on the hypoglycemic side, Harley is in perfect health. But the vet has assured me that with the correct feeding, exercise and bathing he'll be just fine. (keep in mind I've never had a dog that weighed less than 75 pounds do this is all very new to me) any advice on a new yorkie(ish) parent is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone

Buster Brown, Thanks for your concern. My children love him already. My two year old named him and he sleeps with her in her bed(he has actually become her dog) and my one year old honestly could care less if he were there or not. He just ignores him unless he is barking or something like that. And Harley can Yapp

| I think 17 pounds is on the very large yorkie size but I'm sure it's possible. My 7 month old is about 12 pounds so I imagine he'll end up weighing even more at full growth. I'd love to see a photo of Harley. Quote:
