| Scooter is being mean I need help YT friends. Recently Scooter has been getting mean with Sadie. They tied into a fight last night that was just so bad, he was like a wild animal on her. She is very docile and easy going and he was to up until now. I do not know what to do. I love my Scooter bug and re homing him is out of the question, I would be lost without him, but how can I make him stop. He has done this twice now and it is usually over a treat or a toy. Please help me stop Scooter with his new problem, I know that getting him fixed would help but he is only 4 months old so they wont do it yet. I am just lost on this and could use all the help I can get. |

| at his age, honestly you REALLY need to nip this in the bud. SOME dogs just ARE territorial over food or treats or toys. I think you need to place him in a time out immediately when he does this. Physically remove him from the area for a short time. do NOT lock him in a crate or he will become afraid of it and you want the crate to be a safe haven for him. but none the less, remove him to another room. He will learn that the behaviour isn't acceptable. Also, try to make it easier on him but giving him his food seperately for a while to resist the temptation. I would sit by his food bowl and place your hand on the bowl like you are going to take it from him. Just move it slightly to see his reaction. If he growls, correct him by saying no, but do not remove your hand. If he lets you take the bowl, praise him. then immediately give the bowl back. At his young age it should be no time at all before he is able to "share". good luck. If you do not see a change in his behavior soon, I would consult a professional behaviorist.

| I'm all about time out, too...Not for long, because after a few minutes, they've forgotten why they're there...I would gate the kitchen, because Buzz would stand in one of the girls' faces, and bark w/a horrible shrill bark, so they'd give him their bully stick (when he had his own!)...As soon as he would do it, I'd say NO, and pick him up, and put him in the kitchen, for a few mintes...The second he started doing this, again, in the kitchen he would go...He figured out it was no bone, at all, let a lone his sisters', if he started that screaming in their face! |

| If things are getting ugly for now; I would pick up all toys and treats from the floor. Remove the items that he is attempting to guard and get aggressive over ~ until you get this under control. That way, his relationship with your little girl won't be affected. When YOU are ready to play, introduce ONE or TWO toys (not his favorite ones either) into the mix and control the play. He needs to know that the toys are YOURS and not HIS. If he starts getting aggressive; remove the toys and try again later. As for treats; there are some treats that Ringo will still get aggressive over - one of them being bully sticks. For that reason, he only gets a bully stick in his crate and we usually just put Lucy in hers too ~ with her bully stick. It just avoids any possible unpleasantness.

| Thank you all for all the great advice, I have tired the pennies in the can when Sadie barks for no reason and it works, thank you for that. Scooter has not been aggressive with her since the last incident but as soon as he is I am trying the time out. Sometimes when they play he gets vocal but not mean, and as far as the food goes, they eat good together, he is not food aggressive just treats and toys. Hopefully all this good advice will pay off. |
