| Put the blanket on the back of the cushions and you know pillows are made to be fluffed & re-fluffed. Make your little guys happy. |

| Do what you feel is right - Yorkies are very smart and sensitive - they will listen (maybe not at first). Darwin sits on the back of ours and last week I saw total fear in his eyes. I first heard panting, then I looked up to see him holding on to the back of the chesterfield for dear life - poor guy. I don't mind him up there, but then again, ours isn't too new! |

| Well we got our new couches, and Chewy tried jumping up along the top and I just said no... get down... he tried a few times, and I repeted no... get down. After about three tries, he stopped.... Sadie has not tired to get up there and she is the one who LOVES sleeping up there.... I am thinking I might put a dog bed on our end table where they could look out the window. We have a pocket door so we can close off the living room. I turn the heat down in here and close the door during the day when we are out or go to bed. The only time the dogs are in this room is when we are in here so there is a lot of control. Now, my bed... that's another story. They think it's their bed and they allow US to sleep with THEM!!!! LOL....

| Put a throw (blanket) over the back of the new couches and get some of that "doggy stay off" stuff from the store-make sure it's safe though, and spray it on the blanket (it might stain a couch) this along with verbal and consistent training just might work. Maybe with the new couches having a new smell and such and implementing a new rule with the new couches you stand a chance. I use a throw on the back of my sofa because the dogs have ripped the leather on the top from getting up and down... Last edited by concretegurl; 11-28-2010 at 02:32 AM. |

| So far today the dogs have not tried getting up on the back! I think because it is a new couch and the back is taller they are just not going up there!!!! I'm thilled they are listening. If they didnt sag the top laying there it wouldnt be a big deal. But blanket or not they weigh the top down and over time it sags.

| I vote for blankets. You can get really cute fleece fabric that coordinates with you sofa. You don't need to sew anything, it is light and easy to wash. |

| Glad to hear it is going well with them not sitting on the tops of the couch. My first yorkie would sit on the top of the couch and he put a big "dent" in the pillow. Trixie just uses the couch as a stepstool and sits in the bay window!! I even put a bed she received in her first gift exchange in the window for her so that she is more comfortable I would never win the couch war!

! Might be the bed didn't have your smell and the couch was more of a neutral special privileged area like having them on your bed, they really feel like they are accepted into you pack when they can rest where you rest be it a couch or bed. Mine have taken over the couch so I have my awesome wing-backed chair I put at the computer that no dogs were allowed on...for the first month...now I can't lean back on it I'll squish one of the fur-babies...all three of them have claimed the pillow on y chair as the dog area of it. | |

| Belle would totally think I lost my mind if I tried to tell her she had to get off the back of the couch. I have the pillow backs and try to keep them covered with a throw but she is quite stubborn and if she could laugh I'm sure she would. I don't even have a window there for her to look out. That's her nap spot and chewing spot and she is quiet clever. I give her a bully stick and she jumps on the back of the couch, pulls the cover out of the way and sticks the bully between the pillow backs to hold it while she chews Good thing my family knows all about Belle's little quirks. |
