Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | ![]() Hi, fellow noob! I found my Yorkie's breeder by checking the ACK and YTCA websites for lists of breeders, then searching for comments about the listed breeders here. Folks on this forum know so much about caring for Yorkies -- I recommend you read as much as your brain can take, especially in the health and emergency categories -- to get an idea of the pros and cons of this little dog and make sure you're prepared to care for it properly (not to mention handle the expenses). As adorable as these dogs are, this breed is not for everyone. I learned a lot about how to find a responsible breeder, and think that my home will be an excellent fit for the puppy I chose, thanks to information on this forum. And I have also gotten a lot of laughs and a few tears in this group already. |

Personally, I do not want to knowingly buy from irresponsible pet owners that do not know anything about breeding and are going to continue to be irresponsible and breed again. They are breeders, they are "back yard breeders" and I wouldn't want to get a pet that way. I seriously doubt they did any testing, evaluating since they don't even know what papers if any they even have. If they actually got their dogs from legit breeders, they would know about papers. You could be in heartache down the road in vet care, etc...

| ![]() Wow. OK. I have to say, some of this sounds a bit harsh. These guys were looking for pets, and went about getting pups from "real" breeders (read: show dog breeders with all the red tape and ribbons to go with it) and they DO know something about breeding. They're not stupid. Their 3 pets have AKC registration and they've done all those tests - liver, blood, hypo- and hyperglycemia when they were little (I'm not TOTALLY up on the tests that should be performed and when but these people certainly are). I'm not talking about careless owners who don't love their pets. These guys have their own ROOM in the house, are immaculately groomed and one is being courted by a local high brow breeder (again, read: show dogs) to stud one of his girls. What they're interested in is continuing the bloodline with the one boy - his sire's passed and there weren't too many boys from that sire. I mean, seriously, if you let your dog have puppies without a live-in vet and several consultations with AKC representatives, is it a crime? |

| ![]() Did you or did you not ask "what we thought?" Did you or did you know really want to know honest opinions? You did not present the situation as if they had the first clue as to what they were doing. You presented it as if they had pets (an oops litter) and weeee, this is fun, lets do it again. So why would you expect a different response? Your stories of these people makes no sense. First you state it was an accident, that the dogs are pet quality, that they don't even know what they can do about registering them. Now you paint a different picture--that they are experienced breeders with impeccable bloodlines and are working with show breeders. If they did all the pre-breeding test, then they must have been planning on breeding....so how is this an "oops?" They are either pet lovers, or breeders. Interested in continuing a blood line, or going to get the dogs fixed after one more litter. So which one is it? Can't be both. Last edited by BamaFan121s; 09-21-2010 at 02:45 PM. |

| ![]() Oh dear god. They have PETS. Were they planning on breeding? Maybe. Maybe not. Choice got away from them when the dogs did their own thing. They may or may not breed their little boy with that show girl yorkie. BTW I did mention that these were dogs from "breeders." Apparently the definition of that word escapes me. This is precisely the thing I avoid. If you're not planning on obtaining a doctorate in that specific breed's anatomy and genealogy you're a horrible person and perpetrating medical disasters on the animal in question. This is not the forum for me. |

![]() Forums in general are a tricky thing. You ask a question and for opinions, and people generally answer. Some people can handle it, some can't. Did you at least notice that before you became offended, people were jumping on left and right welcoming you and trying to help you out.... Last edited by BamaFan121s; 09-21-2010 at 04:40 PM. | |

| ![]() I don't see what went wrong here. No one was rude or in her face, we were just answering her questions and giving our opinions. It's what she asked for, isn't it?
