Cup Potty Training 9 Month Old Female Yorkie

Hey Guys,
My Zoey is now 9 months old and still not fully potty trained. We began potty training her when she was about 3 months old and have been continuous with it. There are times where she will go right on her potty pad and other times where she will poop on the couch and pee on the floor. We leave her home alone for about 10 - 12 hours a day while we are at work in a pen (one of the kids play pens) - maybe this is giving her too much freedom and may need to be smaller... just recently she has started to tear up her potty pads while we are gone at work, but still continues to just pee or poop on the floor, totally ignoring her potty pad. I then caught her last night and again this morning EATING her own poop!!!!! I have read about trying pineapple or bananas... so I will try this and see if it helps. She also keeps us up ALL night long, as she wants to sleep in the bed with us. She is fully capable of jumping up into the bed on her own, but refuses to do so. Once we pick her up and put her in our bed she will jump down a short while later and cry and want back up. This continues ALL NIGHT LONG. When she was 7 weeks old we tried to keep her in a crate at night, but all she would do is BARK!! Which was worse because then we had ZERO sleep... I am really rethinking putting her in a crate at night (or is it too late?). I am tired every single morning due to the constant waking up with her. If someone could please give me some better advice with her potty training too, that would be greatly appreciated!

Well, to start, would it be possible to check in on her during the day rather than leaving her alone for 10-12 hours? That is a long time to be alone, especially for a young puppy. And at night, the whole bed thing, she is still awake and has turned you picking her up and putting her onto your bed into a game. She is bored all day long, so all the time she has with you she is trying to fit play time in there. I know that it's hard to work full time and care for a puppy, but you definitely need to spend more time with here, even if all you get is 30 minutes with her during the day, that'll give her something.
I'm not a pro or anything, just offering what I think may help you out.

oh, and don't give her less space during the day, she needs lots of room to move around and play.

Default Doggie daycare?

10-12 hours is really long for a pup. Are there any doggie daycares near by your work that you could see her at lunchtime? Some of the Petsmart Hotels have daycare facilities.
I know it isn't ideal, but she needs daytime stimulation to make her sleep at night for you.
Wish I could offer more help.

Well, Come the end of next month, I will be home with her all the time since I will be losing my job. So hopefully then things will get better... I know its a long time away from her... i wish we could keep her outside with our other dog, but sometimes I think its just too risky!

How about any of your neighbors? My neighbor is gone all day, and i stop by to walk her and to calm her down. Maybe there's a teenager on your street looking for some extra money and could be trusted in your house? That might make a big difference for your pup.

It sucks you're losing your job soon

Maybe when you have the time you can help Zoey focus more on potty training. If she isn't going in the right place it's because she doesn't know where the right place is. I'd start from scratch (even though it's frustrating potty training) and watch her like a hawk. Whenever you even think she's going to "go" place her on her puppy pads/outside.

Good luck The time you put into potty training pays big time when your pup gets it!

Potty training is so hard!! I understand you because bella was like that. She is till a puppy and she wants to have fun! First you should put her with toys and things to chew. Because that is why she uses her pee pads.
The best way tyo ge her potty train is to give her rewards when she does it in the pad. Learn her schedule and look at her signs. Also, after eatting take her ourside or close to the pee pads. Or more etrme make her have an eatting schedule in which you put the food down in the morning for like 20 min and even if she doent eat take it away. Then do it again when you get home a she will definetely eat!. It will take a few tries for her to understand that she will only have food available in the morning and when you get home. Dogs are so adjustable to everything so you have to put a little buit on effort. Once she eat at those times, she will go and always have the pee pads close to her. It is easier to know this way than if she has food available all the time. This in only my suggestion and its easier to know and correct your dog.
When you get home, try to get her tired, take her to walk and run in a park or play fetch. Something so she is more tired and wear down.
At nigh you should put her somewhere where she can't see you because when she sees you she will want to be with you! Giving her no response when she barks or cries will make her calm down and understand that night it time to sleep.

With crating her at night, you may have to put her in a crate right next to you. Rizzo will whine or bark if he is crated in another room, but if he is in his crate next to my bed where he can see and smell me he is quite. You just have to figure out your own dog though.

Smile hello

Greetings to you Amber!

First, you have an advantage and that's her age: once the puppy reaches 6 months, her/his bladder is bigger and don't have to pee as often + they have more control + can hold it.

Now, if you're considering using a crate to put her while not home, remember that no dog should be confined in a crate for more that 3hrs. It's just not right.

You have to rush training. I think it would be easier if you complement by teaching to pee on the pads AND outside.
- first, don't give her a chance to pee inside. Take her out 15 min after eating/drinking, waking up, and immediately after playing hard.
- price her for pee outside.
- place pee pads everywhere she usually walks throughout- I used 3 in different points where it was easily visible from distance.
You can use pheromone sprays on the pad & let her smell it.
- when she has an accident, take her immediately to the pad no matter if she doesn't pee more.

I think It's better if you restrain the areas to just a small space...

My case: I was having a hard time. I trained my pup to pee outside & on a litter box inside.
I decided to let him sleep in a separate small room (laundry room) : no carpet, just his bed, water/food, and his litter box 2 feet away. He does great!

Hope this helps!
