| Stop people from leaving dogs in hot cars We need to stop DOGS being left in hot cars ! take action This is what I experienced today and if we unite and take action in our own hometowns, we may be able to accomplish saving some doggy lives this summer. I got really upset today. When I left the grocery store I saw a car with two boston terriers in it with the windows rolled almost all the way up. It was 92 degrees outside. I went into several stores and back to the grocery trying to locate the owner. All this took about 10-15 minutes. Just as I was about to call the police, a man came out of a restaurant with his take-out food and got in the car. I told him "I can't believe that you left those dogs like that".....he just ignored me and drove off. I was so angry it probably was good that he didn't say anything to me. I came home and emailed the local news stations and the humane society asking them to use their "voice" to remind people not to leave pets in the hot cars and also gave them the number that the police gave me to call when we see something like that happening. I was very pleased later to get a return email from the Public Relations Manager at the Humane Society who said she would once again put out a press release to the media to remind people about this. She thanked me for my concern. Please take the time ask your local humane society to do a press release and get the word out ...again !! : |

| My husband is convinced that one day I will be shot! I live in central FL. I have printed cards that I keep in my car.. It says: It is against the law in the State of FL to leave your dog in your car REGARDLESS of the temperature!! I stick that on the window or door...and then I sit there to make sure they come with in 5 min. If not I call the police. Its a good thing I WASNT there!!! Someone in my area was just prosecuted for leaving a dog in a hot car! TAMPA, FL -- Down from Illinois on spring break, Police say Marius Molnar left a dog inside his SUV while he visited Busch Gardens. An officer working extra duty spotted the car in the Busch Gardens parking lot with the dog inside. Hillsborough County Animal Services investigated and said the inside temperature of the vehicle was 90 degrees. The dog named Snuggle, a female Maltese/Lhasa Apso mix, was left without water in a cage. Since the dog appeared to be in distress, officers managed to get inside the vehicle and rescue the dog. Molnar was charged with animal cruelty and the dog was turned over to the county's animal services for care. He is held on $2,000 bond. Snuggle is being treated in an animal hospital after her core temperature had reached nearly 106 degrees. Tampa Police and Hillsborough County Animal Services remind pet owners that pets left behind in cars can be harmful with the sun shining even on cooler days and it is against the law. |

| Break the window i believe it is legal to do so if you feel the dog is in danger you have someone go into the store and and say over the load speaker that so and so car has hot dogs and they will be freed by breaking the window. if noone comes and you feel the dogs life might be in danger you can break the window

I did this in Arizona many, many times...The police were wonderful and would come right away...I didn't wait 5 minutes because a dog could die in that time...

I would call the police but if they don't respond and you can see the dogs are going down then I would do it..but I also know I would be sued and probably lose.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | My advise is call the cops and give the location and license plate - they do care about this and will hopefully wait for the person who did this to return and then issue them a warning or ticket - if at a store - contact the manager with the same info |

| Well, unfortunately, leaving children in hot cars happens too often as well.

People are stupid but this kind of thing leads to fatalities we had a cop in houston that left his K-9 in his car and the poor dog died - there was a huge uproar - but how in the world did a cop let that happen to his best friend ? I know it's a matter of people not thinking or something comes up but it's still wrong. If it's hot - don't leave a living creature human or animal in an oven - common sense. edited to add - heat stroke is a horrible horrible way to die or go thru

| I agree with you on this one. Our local news reminds the public almost daily and yet it still happens. I think they said that the temperature in the car can change as much as 45 degrees in the summer. Yet people still leave kids and pets in the car. DUH! I don't even like to close the windows all the way when I get out because the car gets too hot for me when I go to get back in! Another thing that happens so often around here and is preventable is kids drowning. I don't understand it. I don't leave my dogs in the bathtub without me being right there... I can't imagine having a pool with no fence (as required) and having a toddler able to get outside by him/herself. Gates, locked doors, discipline.... I remember some 20+ years ago that my daughter used to like to practice being Houdini. Seriously, at 2 yrs old she would move chairs to climb up so that she could get on the counter, which made it easier for her to get ON TOP of the refrigerator!!! (good hiding place for hide n seek). Seriously, we ended up buying some contraption that was battery operated and hung on the door (front & back) and it would make a terrible high pitched alarm-type sound when it was moved. It wasn't anything fancy but it did let us know that she was about to start her adventure.

| On a recent blazing hot day, I saw two long hair Shihtzus sitting in a car parked in the full sun. The window was barely cracked. Making matters worse, the car was a very small sports model with black leather interiors. I had Max with me and we were hanging out in the shade of some trees for at least 10 minutes before I realized that there were dogs in this car. The owner finally returned. She had been shopping in the Vitamin Shoppe. |

| Dogs in Cars on Hot days Yes, I agree 100%!!! People who cannot love and care for their dogs and know the risks of leaving them in cars on hot days - should be educated - 1 minute in a hot car can do so much damage to their brain that a lot of them die. Where I live there are always articles in the paper in the summer time warning people not to leave their dog outside, take them for walks or leave them in cars on hot days - they should always have lots of water - If it's hot leave them home!!!!!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Here in Arizona, you can call 911 if you see an animal in a hot car...and you can be sure I'll do it. The other thing I've done (if it's borderline hot) - is I'll ask the store if they'll make an announcement, so that I don't have to call emergency....and they have, twice. I was almost going to break a window once too, and then the owner came out and we argued in the parking lot - and he couldn't have cared less about the heat in that car . Makes me so upset.
