| my dog embarasses me! Whenever we go on a walk, she will bark/growl at anyone who walks by. She sounds really mean, but if they stop she's acts happy to see them, and the same with other dogs. What can do to stop this? Shes only 15 weeks old, and she started doing this about 3 weeks ago. |

| She's to young to be going out for walks, it is my understanding that pups finish all their shots, or at least should finish all their shots, at 16-18 weeks old. After that, wait two weeks for full immunity. It's a precaution to keep your baby safe. Anyway, this is a behavior you need to nip in the bud. If she's ok to take out, don't expect much from her yet, she's still a baby. If and when she is ready to be out in the big world, correct this behavior. When she starts getting excited, walk in the opposite direction. Once she quiets down, hopefully after a few steps, turn back around. Don't let her approach what makes her excited until she's calm. How old was she when she came home? If she came home younger than 12 weeks of age, she lost out on good doggy manners mom and litter mates teach between the ages of 8 and 12 weeks.

| ^^^ Agreed. i also want to add that a pup that young shouldn't be showing that much aggression. Uni didn't even bark once until she was about 5 months old. Also, Uni does embarrass me, but bc she is so hyperactive, and wants to run all the time on our walks. She screeches so loud it sounds like I am hurting her, but of course I'm not. she was not like this as a puppy. She was so quiet that we could take her into a restaurant and cover her up with a hoodie and she would just go to sleep. Not anymore. So just wanted to say, a pup's personality will not always be the same when they are grown. BUT don't leave it up to the pup, you need to start your training now.

| Training will help. If you allow her to do it, even at this age, it can become a habit. Training is bonding time anyway, so there's more than one benefit.

| I was also thinking that this sounded like a fear behavior. Some dogs will shiver and hide, but others will try to alert you by barking at the perceived threat. The trick would be to associate the thing that is upsetting her with something wonderful, like an especially tasty treat. Distract the puppy when a person approaches, then reward the good (non-barking) behavior.

| I really don't think she's scared. She barks all the time. She always barks like there is someone in the yard or trying to break in. Then I look outside and there's nothing there. |

| when she has all her vaccines, a puppy socialization class would be good for her . SHe to be socialized more and learn that people are not a threat to her . Remember that dogs have very sensitive hearing, often we can't hear what their barking at ....

| Daisy has super sensitive hearing.....she will bark to let me know that the garbage truck is making its way through our neighborhood! It is particularly funny when she barks at thunder! I just think that she believes she is doing her job protecting us. Since you don't think your dog is reacting to other people out of fear, maybe it is the protection instinct? If that is the case, I agree with the person who suggested socialization experiences/classes. Best wishes........

| Help, we have a talker, i mean barker! I have a similar problem with our 16 month old Yorkie. She acts human using her bark to communicate with us, but honestly we are going crazy with her constant chatter (bark)! We have squirrels, chipmunks, ants, worms, etc. in the yard and she talks to all of them, as well! She will run really fast around the yard looking up in the sky and bark, bark, bark or dig a big hole and bark down the hole! I do believe she is in a protective mode while she is in the house, but outside I think she is just having fun hearing herself bark. Our neighbors are not a fan of hers. Forget the door bell ringing...I can't get to her fast enough. And if she doesn't like the visitor, she barks incessantly at them until I remove her and put her in our bedroom where she still continues the barking. I have completed 5 obedience classes with her and she always finishes as the star! No barking, alert, follows my lead, etc. At the dog park and on our walks she is silent and obedient! What is that all about? I honestly need help. We have praised her first for announcing, given her treats for being quiet, used the bark repeller suggested on YT, ignored her behavior, etc., nothing changes her behavior! |
