| ![]() If you got her from a pet store, there is almost a 100% chance that she came from a puppy mill. And, the papers from ALL puppy mill puppies will have papers with the name of a breeder and include an address. That person named is the puppy mill owner and the address of the mill. I bet if you search on the USDA dog breeders list (where puppy mills have to be registered for regulation and inspection, just as if they are raising cattle), you will find that name and address.

Puppies from Missouri, sold in petstores are puppymill dogs. The breeders either sell through a broker service or, anymore will sell directly to pet stores. Yes, you may have the breeders name on paperwork but I can guarantee you the breeder operates what is known as a puppymill. Missouri has more puppymills than any other state. My state, Oklahoma is probably 2nd or 3rd in the number of puppymills. They don't openly call themselves puppymills, bc then most people would not buy the dogs. If you have any doubts about what I'm telling you, either post the name of the breeder listed on the papers or you can private message a member here with the name. The name will show up on some website and then with research you can find out for certain what I'm telling you is true. Dogs purchased through a petstore should not be bred. Most likely they will have health concerns that although may not affect them, could show up and affect their puppies. Hopefully you all will decide not to breed your new puppy, and will enjoy her for the pet she should be.

| ![]() Quote: It is sad that it can be difficult to find a reputable breeder. So many puppies come from mills and backyard breeders. I came to this site hoping to get advise on finding a good one. Just because a puppy is from a mill does not mean he/she should be loved any less. It is not their fault they were born into such an environment. You live, you learn. When you walk into a pet store with puppies it is so hard not to fall in love and want to take one home, but the only way to stop puppy mills is to stop buying from the places they sell to. If they can't make a profit, they will stop doing it. | |

That said you must realize that no reputable breeder would ever let their puppy go to a pet store. What's that leave you with? Unreputable breeders, puppy mills. Of course they are going to deny any association with puppy mills, have you ever heard of anyone admitting to it? It makes sense for them to deny it, otherwise they would lose all their business. And having a breeder's name, the parents name means nothing. All registries require this. And often times you will see their siblings there as puppy millers sell whole litters to pet stores. No it doesn't necessarily mean she will end up sick and die but you just never know what will happen as no thought was given as to the genetics and health of her parents. Some puppy mill dogs live perfectly healthy normal lives while others don't, there is just no way of knowing which it will be, it's like playing russian roulette. Just love her and care for her and try not to worry about the future, do the best you can for her, it is all you can do.
