I am not a veteran. Cerise is almost 9 months old and I brought her home on Valentine's Day. I did serious research and used YT as a mentor for months before getting her because I did not want to make mistakes and be a bad owner mother. I guess you are right...a new puppy is overwhelming for anyone. Mine sure was. And I know my boyfriend complained plenty when she was weeing inside.

But it's unethical to lock any animal in a garage just so that you don't have to deal with it's mess. they take time and patience, whether they are big or small

try your best to educate this person and if the animal is ever found to be suffering and locked away I would take action.

Isabella is my first Yorkie and I have to admit I was very overwhelmed, but these people have to realize there will lots of obstacles the first year. I was use to larger dogs and such a small baby was hard to keep up with. She would disappear so fast so she was very hard to train. I paper trained her and she still misses her pad. She has chewed my base boards, but these are things you have to accept when a pet owner. Even with children, look at all the things they tear up and messes they make during the growing up years.

yea know i brought rex home at 8 weeks. i didnt know any better then.. when i think back on it he was soooo young . im head over heals for my little man and my love for him grows more each day. hes 8 months now and i wouldn't have it any other way.

pisses me off that people treat animals like 'animals' like they have no feelings people that dont want to deal with the mess or smell of potty training then dont get a pet!

rex stayed in my bed from day one...he is my baby not just a dog not just a pet...hes my everything!

I would just like to say That I am one of those newbies being discussed.

I got Chloe And her brother Bear at 8wks from her horrible breeder.. Even though I had not joined Yorkie talk yet, I did know it was recommended that the puppy be 12wks vs 8wks when I take her home. I even asked her breeder to keep her for the extra 4wks due to this info I read, But she assured me that was nonsense, And that she had a life and couldn't put anymore time into watching the puppies. Although I didn't see the red flags at the time And trusted my breeder, I do now thanks to all the wealth of info found on this site, As well as the many articles readily available online about training, and health.

But my real point is this.. Chloe fustrated me. Chloe was real bad with potty issues,And even made me cry a few times due to her horrible behavior, as I felt I was getting no where... But Instead of throwing her in my garage, I did research and joined yorkie talk. Instead of ignoring her I worked even harder to establish a bond.. So IMO being a new dog owner has nothing to do with these peoples behavior, Stupid ignorant people are just that, And have no business getting an animal, And if it were me I would report them.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. That "breeder" sounds mean!!!!! I'm glad you stuck with it, I bet it paid off in the end.

Yes it did!! I am happy to say Chloe is fully potty trained, Hasn't chewed a cord,table carpet or base board in months!!! She is My best friend..I don't know how I'd get by without her.I am so glad those days are behind us,
And I owe a lot to this site....But you have to want to do the right thing and learn.

nokoff - Orange - any of the products that can take uring smell out of floors.

Xpens for indoor use - disposable puppy pads.

How about a basement versus the fluctuating temperatures of the garage?


And then I think if the owners of this baby, seem to the OP not to be listening or resisting all the good advice. Well then, as much as you may love your pup, what you are doing can cause irreparable damage to your dog. There is a real health concern from fluctuating temperatures in the garage, and if the dog is not in an expen, what else is stored in that garage? - oil, antifreeze, fertilizers? If the dog gets out you would be less likely to hear the cries or to know that has happened. Young pups need the sounds, smells, and the environment of a home, to become adjusted to a home. They need love, time, and training to become well adjusted, happy, healthy critters. the best thing you could do for your dog, if you can't take this dog into your home, is to place him/her with some-one who can provide the best care for this dog.

okay that is very annoying. My family now has three dogs, a bichon who is almost 13 a huskie who is 3 and then we went and got a Yorkie two weeks ago she is 11 weeks old. I did my research, now that I am on here I realize she still may have been a little young but to late for that. She is a hand full. I knew that getting a puppy would be alot of work. My whole family is in on caring for her and sacrificing our time etc. As my sweet girl says toys, and TV are just things mom but Paris is a living thing that needs us. (she said this after she was nipped for the 100 time) if she can get it why can't adults.

That is so cute! I agree, if a child gets it, I don't see why some adults can't. I hope the OP is able to help her co-worker understand their little pup needs more than what they are giving her right now.

What are the specific facts with this? Is the garage insulated or not? Lots of garages are now insulated and heated. Is the puppy being left for hours on end in the garage with no interaction with the owners/family? I think it's absurd and rude to make so many generalizations without having all the facts. It makes one look like a pseudo intellectual. Just my opinion. Maybe the family is just putting the puppy in the garage and using it like a crate and the garage is heated and the pup is also let inside and gets lots of interaction (really hoping this is the case). I just haven't heard all the details so I'll refrain myself from saying any negative things, which I think is the appropriate thing to do.

To me, whether the garage is insulated is pointless. This pup is less than 12 weeks old, which makes it an infant. Infants need way more care, even a 12 week old needs lots of care. Even if the garage was attached to the house, how often do people really truly visit the garage? The ideal place to put a pup, any pup, is in an area where they are exposed to the people of the house, the house noises, smells, and all things that would be going on in everyday life. How else do you expect them to get use to their new home? Even if the garage was top of the line, with all the amenities, this pup is still out of sight, out of mind. It's kinda like when some breeders say that they have a "yorkie house" that is separate from their home, yet claim they are raised in their loving home. How can you really share the love, when they're not even easily accessible?

I suggest you go back and re-read my post again. It's not pointless. Yes, a puppy under 12 weeks old obviously needs lots of care.. I don't think anyone can deny that.... Do we know for a fact the details of the care this puppy is receiving? Maybe the puppy is just left there when no one is home (working) and the garage is heated. Not a big difference between leaving a puppy in a heated living room vs. a heated garage when no one is around. Now is there? If you can proof to me otherwise then please inform me. Yes, people hardly ever visit the garage, but like I said above and in my original post maybe the puppy isn't left in there all the time, maybe it's only when no one is home to supervise the puppy? Did that ever cross your mind at all? We do NOT know for sure if the puppy is out of sight and out of mind all the time like people are ASSUMING unless of course you can tell me YOU are these people's personal secretary...
