| ![]() I agree that it is an individual thing as opposed to a geographical thing. I was raised in the south and while a friendly place - manners were important. You just did NOT ask a stranger how much they paid for something. A friend, perhaps. It's just what I was taught. |

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() I feel like maybe it's a cultural thing. When people ask me, I try saying "too much", but they usually press me on it, and then I say, well he was adopted, generally yorkies in this area cost $xxx. Somewhat off topic... I met a hispanic couple in the park with a larger yorkie. He of course wanted to play with Thor and of course Thor wanted nothing to do with him. The lady approached me and asked something about Thor. I couldn't make out what she was saying, but I finally realized that she was talking about her dog being "excited", and "x-teh-kels". I'm like, okay, this weird lady is asking me about Thor's testicles. She must want to know if he's neutered. So I said yes, he is. Somehow this didn't end the conversation, and she kept picking up her dog and showing me his "area", which was not something I really wanted to discuss with her. Then it hit me! She was talking about these ball-shaped glands that appear around a male dog's penis sometimes. It was kind of funny, because I saw them on Thor once and freaked out - I thought his testicles had somehow migrated to his stomach. I even started a thread about it on YT. I would NEVER have known about these extra glands that yes, show up on male dogs when they are excited - like, happy excited, not hey-sexy-lady excited. So I said, YES, I know what you're talking about, they're not testicles, and I picked up Thor and showed her HIS area! I heard her go back to her husband and tell him that "it" was normal. I felt like I had done my good deed for the day. ![]()

| ![]() it was funny tonight because about an hour after i last read this thread - my husband had come home from work (and i hadn't mentioned anything - i don't talk to him about online convos) and he said, "yeah, i had my eye on this old truck and my friend knows the guy who owns it so he was supposed to ask about it. well, we were over at his house and the truck was gone - he'd already sold it!" then he said, "i asked the guy - just out of curiosity, how much did you let it go for?" the guy answered, "he offered me 500 bucks and i jerked his arm off" and then went on to tell him how it was smoking really bad, blah blah blah. it was just funny he mentioned it after this conversation. come to think of it - i had a coversation a few days ago with a group of strangers about power bills - we were all talking about how much ours was, etc. i personally think it is somewhat geographical. i don't do this if my children are with me - but if they aren't, we'll pull over and give someone a ride who is walking. i used to do it all the time before i had kids. there are certain places i don't think anyone would ever do that - heck, there are places where people never take their eyes off the ground. it's just interesting. and to the person who said some would find this thread alone offensive - i thought that was a possibility - and i was shocked that it didn't turn into a tomato throwing fest - me being the target! you just never know. |

| ![]() i know - isn't it nice? i can't imagine living anywhere else! i've changed a bit about that since i have children and i would never put them at risk, but for the most part - it's just in me! there was a homeless man who used to eat at the restaurant i worked at in high school EVERY day. when i would see him walking, i'd pick him up and my friends would be like, "what are you doing picking up a bum?!" he wasn't a bum - he was homeless. he was a human, and a nice one. i realize not everyone is nice and that's why i won't pick someone up when i have my children with me - but i like to think for the most part that people are good. i also believe in karma, and there has never been a time that i was stuck on the side of the interstate that someone hasn't stopped to help (whether i needed it or not). |

| ![]() that is true. once on a cross country road trip with my family when I was about 7 my dad insisted on driving from so cal all the way to key west. On the way there and on the way back in almost the same town we broke down in TX. Most locals would not stop for us, but both ways truckers stopped and helped give my dad a lift to the nearest auto parts store. that's how I remember it anyway.

| ![]() it's been about two months, but my husband and i saw this man (kind of scraggly looking) walking with his son who looked about 6 years old - and he was holding a gas can. the nearest station was about two miles away and it was COLD out!! we pulled into the gas station to turn around so we could pick them up and just then saw the man/child getting out of someone else's car with the gas can. i just always try to put myself in other people's shoes. i would hate to think i had to walk two miles with my 5 year old and/or 3 year old in the freezing cold and nobody would stop to help. what a desperate moment! |

i love TN as well - although i always said when i was younger that i was going to move! then i travelled....and realized TN is the best! lol. nashville is kind of like the NYC of new york. my sister lives there and i've been a few times, but nashville is more "city" than most of tennessee. i'm REALLY close to asheville, NC - about an hour, actually. we always go to myrtle beach, SC for vacation though! for the record, i'm about an hour from dollywood - you know, "come to tennessee- we'll make you feel at home!" totally off topic - but u know dolly parton? she sends out a book a month to every kid in tennessee - a HARDBACK book - that can't be cheap. my kids have gotten one every month since birth - it's awesome! | |
