that is true. once on a cross country road trip with my family when I was about 7 my dad insisted on driving from so cal all the way to key west. On the way there and on the way back in almost the same town we broke down in TX. Most locals would not stop for us, but both ways truckers stopped and helped give my dad a lift to the nearest auto parts store. that's how I remember it anyway.
