| Should I consider taking this puppy?!? Hi everyone!!! Ok, so here's the situation. My godmother knows a woman who is re-homing her 10-month old puppy. She currently weighs about 2 lbs (maybe she's a touch larger, like 1-2 ounces), but some of you may remember that I have been waiting to get a dog that's on the smaller side because of my back issues. I originally planned to rescue a full-grown dog so that I could be sure of it's adult size. My needs require that the dog be no bigger than about 4 lbs. My concern is that this furbaby might grow too large for me to pick her up as much as I need to. I must travel across the country to meet her, so there is some expense involved in this. My question is: how much more do you think she will grow? BTW, pleeeeeease, pretty please with cherries on top, no comments about getting a larger dog, we've already exhausted that conversation Thanks everyone!!! |

| If she is 2lbs at 10 months, I would think she is a very small Yorkie. How is her health? Cerise is 3.4lbs at 8 months and she is very little and healthy.

| She likely wont get much bigger... after this age mine only filled out, gaining some muscle which puts on a little bit of weight but not more then a pound or so. However, anything can happen and what if she does get over 4 pounds... what is she had a health problem that caused her to gain weight (this could happen with a dog of any age). If the answer is that she will need to be rehomed, I would not go get her.

| Go see her and see if you fall in love. At 10 months I doubt she will get much bigger. But beware, smaller dogs can have more health issues. If you can handle that then I say yeah. Ask if you can take her to the vet before agreeing to anything.

| What will you do if you get her and she has a growth spurt and hits 6 lbs?

| If I were you I would go for it. This just may be the rescue pup for you. I'm not an expert, but from what I know pups at 10 mos usually don't get much bigger. You could even take her to get a Vet check before you decide. While at the groomers, A 2 year old 3 lb yorkie named Squirt came in. She was the sweetest little thing. The girl just carried her under her arm. If the pup checks out with a excellent Vet check, you should take her. That's my opinion...Good Luck |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I have a bad back too and I admire you for saying you have a limit to how much you can pick up on a continuous basis. I am terrified of ever saying anything about Yorkie weight as it is such a hot poker in the eye subject. I just love the way a 3 lb. Yorkie feels when I bend over and pick it up w/o my back saying "are you freakin kidding me". If I ever get another one.............3 lbs. and I don't care it honks off the Pres. That's a great idea to have the little one checked by a Vet before bringing it home but you know how we are......If I see it and touch it.......I'm a goner. Maybe the current owner will do it for you and have the results sent to you if you pay for it. Nobody would have a sick baby to care for and pour money into if they had a choice. It would be heart breaking in so many ways. I wish you the best of luck and thank you for your honesty. My "old grey mare" back is teaching me limitations everyday. But hey! I'm still on the right side of the grass! ?" ? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | She probably won't get too much larger, though tinies can have little growth spurts later than non-tinies. Still, I can't imagine she'd get larger than 3lbs at the very most - if she is a little over 2lbs at 10 mths old. I would make sure you see good pictures of her, and ask to see her vet records. Bc of her tiny size, are you aware of any symptoms that would warrant some testing before you get her? Hopefully, the current owner has done some bloodwork on her?

| UPDATE - strange turn of events well, turns out the woman who claimed that she was "rehoming" her dog to a "loving forever home" decided to sell it!! she had told my godmother she would wait for me to get there because she wanted to make sure the dog had the best home possible, but then suddenly posted on her facebook page that the dog had been "sold". she wouldn't answer the phone when my godmother called and she wouldn't return her calls. oh well, again disappointed , but i guess it wasn't the right one for me ... can't wait to meet the right one, though!! i'm getting ready!! thanks again for all of your help!!! |

yes, some YT'ers can be a tad touchy about the weight issue (that's why i said in my first post we had exhausted that conversation LOL) but it's only because they are in love with the breed and want to see the best for it, so i understand.... and i soooo appreciate folks respecting my request ... you guys are awesome | |

| oohh...she's gonna be a tiny one...my teeny 4 lb Tank was bigger than that at 10 months. I would guess he was about 3 to 3.5 lbs at that age. If you click with her, I would say go for it!
