Default Does the waking me up at 6:30am get better?

Mya is VERY insistent that we get up between 6am and 7am. Perfect for when I am working.. but I am on holidays darn it, and I just wanna sleep till 8! lol... She sleeps in her xpen right near my bed, has food, water and toys, and it's covered in pee pads and newspaper. I kinda think that once it gets a little bit light out she can see me, and cries because she wants me. When I got Ollie he was 1.5 (ish) and while he did wake me up too, not this early. He'd stop too if I ignored him long enough and go back to sleep. Mya, on the other hand.. omg. It's like something is in that xpen is trying to kill her. I'm afraid she'll wake up the whole neighborhood and someone will call the SPCA saying I'm abusing her, lol. Oliver stopped waking me up once I let him sleep with me.. but Mya is too young to start that, I don't think I'll let her until she's 6 months or so, depending on how much she grows. She seems to be able to hold it 7 hours at night, as she doesn't go in her pen at all that I can tell.

I'm ok with getting up early for now. I'd just like to hear from others that this will get better and she'll sleep longer. Even Oliver is looking at her like please be quiet, it's too early.. lol. I've tried ignoring it because I do want her to learn that we get up when I say we get up... but I only last like 5 minutes and just have to get her, she gets louder and louder. I get migraines if I don't sleep enough, so I guess I'll have to try going to bed earlier and hope that she still makes it to 6:30 ish.

Please tell me it gets better! Lie if you have to, lmao.

The best investment I have ever made was getting Micro Suede Dark Brown Shades for my bedroom windows. They keep out the light so both Milo and I sleep later. I found before I had them we were both waking up as soon as the light entered the room. If you can not get darker shades maybe try putting the xpen somewhere in the room where there is not so much in coming light.

Derby can sleep until about 8 (when we go to bed around 11), and as long as he goes for a pee he'll go right back to bed. I might also add that after he's been out for pee, he wants to cuddle so putting him back in his bed/crate overnight is not an option. We spoil him now and then by leaving him out of it all night sometimes, but that's general consensus.

I'm a migraine sufferer myself, and on those nights- i don't even bother putting him in his cage. that way he'll sleep whenever I tell him it's time for a nap.

I think some of it has to do w/temperment...Apple is more high-strung, than Buzz, and I'm LUCKY to get to sleep in 'till 6! She usually starts rustling around about 5...Buzz, is like your Ollie...He's like, oh man, it can't be morning, I'm still sleeping lol, and he's a real laid back personality...But once Apple is awake, that's it...And she is the older one (1 1/2 yrs. old)...Buzz is 8 1/2 mo. old...I do think when your baby starts sleeping w/u, it'll be a little better...I have a waterproof mattress protector, that you can't tell is waterproof, and another one w/the silver thread (supposed to keep you cooler) on top of that one, just in case...

As a pup, Jackson used to wake up super early too. 6:30am typically. I got him on my winter break from college when most people are sleeping 'til noon.... ha! Not me He slept in a crate but that didn't last long. One night I let him sleep on my bed (he was maybe 16 weeks old) and he slept through the entire night and 'til 8am. From then on, he's been in my bed! He's never had one accident.

But now, at 1 1/2 years old... like on the weekends, he will until 10-10:30am with me if I let him out between 11-midnight. He holds it forever. Weekdays I feel bad getting up because he's just crashed and snoozing and he still doesn't rush outside to go pee... I go to the bathroom first, brush my teeth, while he stretches and wakes up ha. Then he goes right back to bed.

Our babies are able to read the alarm clock . . . Seriously, the alarm is set for 5:25am during the week and around 5:22 they start walking around the bed . . .maybe they don't like to hear the buzz buzz from the alarm? On the weekends, like clockwork . .6:45 . .

Glad to hear I'm not alone.. lol. I think if this continues I will likely let her start sleeping with us much earlier than 6 months, lol. She's over 5 pounds now at 12 weeks, so maybe in a month she'll be big enough for me to feel comfortable with it. Curtains aren't an option, I have two large windows in my room and it would cost a small fortune. I've thought about switching to the crate and putting a blanket over 3 sides, but I just spent $80 on the darn xpen, lol. Guess I'll have to grin and bear it for now. She loves to sleep, so hopefully once she can cuddle with Oliver and I she'll chill and sleep longer.

Maybe cover the ex-pen at night with a sheet? Bandit woke up super-early when he was a puppy, but now that he's 3 he'll sleep super late. Nala will sleep to about 9 on the weekends but will wait as patiently as she can in her crate if were not up until about 10 and then she'll cry.

It will def get better with age, it's just a waiting game. By the end of summer you should be able to sleep MUCH later.... good luck!!

I have thought about this.. I might have to try working one in a way that it can't fall on her overnight tonight. I'm not asking to sleep in late, 8am would be just fine with me, lol.

From my experience with my two, the crate has worked very well. My female is more high-strung than my male but as long as she is sleeping in our bed and not her own, she will sleep in with us or wake us up to go potty and then goes right back to bed with us and stays there until we get up - whatever time that is (weekdays 5:00 a.m. & weekends between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.). Our youngest yorkie pup, Riley, who's 5 1/2 months is a different story. He is still in the crate at night and we cover it much like you would a bird cage at night - that let's him know it's bed time. He does wake up sometimes (especially since he has been injured with fractured leg) but as long as we take him out to potty and then return him to the cage, cover it and then go back to bed, he will go back to sleep. I think, if he were allowed to have access to his pen during the night he would be very vocal about being let out but since we are controlling the situation by way of enclosed crate, it helps him know that it is bed time and not play time.

Sorry to say, I haven't had this problem. Twinkie has slept with me from the beginning. We have stairs at the bottom of the bed, so when she has to go potty, she walks down the stairs, potties and comes right back up and sleeps. If she's not in the mood to sleep, she will look out of the window or play with one of her toys, or bully sticks, until I wake up. I'm sure if she didn't sleep with me, I might have the same issue.

Good Luck!

Is she waking up because she has to go potty? Callie used to wake up around 2am and then around 6am, then she got to just waking up around 6am and now she will sleep in some times till 11am but a lot of the time I have to wake her up and say ok time to get up.

Well she does go potty pretty quick after we get outside - but - she is no where near potty trained and has no problems peeing anywhere and everywhere, lol. I may try taking her out once in the night and see if that helps.

I agree 100% with you.. I put a huge blanket in my window as we only get 4hours of darkness during the summer and always left it there because I notice that Bailey sleeps in until I get up
