I wouldn't go down without a fight... If it was stated in your lease that you can have a pet, then fight it... I would move before I would give up my babies!! Especialy my Nicky!! I wanted a yorkie all my life and there is no way I would ever give him up!! I would sue him, cause if it says on your lease that you can have a pet then they HAVE to honor that!!! Good luck in whatever your choise is.

to you.. im doing alot of over time.. With that said my attorney and my
management, went over the lease and i guess i over looked in fine print
the right to cancel the pet policy anytime if tenents, abuse the policy rules, my lawyer says not much can be done either
i can move or sell the dog, i want to keep him so bad i hate this
the problem is i cant afford to move at the moment, and my credits, not as good as it was when i move in my place

You should get a second legal opinion.

i dont no how many apartment units we have at the complex alot but because the pet policy was very new and just started aug 2009 not alot of residents have dog still when i first moved in the management didnt except dogs or cats

If you were not a tenent who abused the policy I would go down fightening.
A pet is a family member. If children drew on walls in the hall ways does that
mean all children are banned from the promises or just the ones who drew on the wall. If they can't prove it was your dog who was not cleaned up after
they shouldn't be able to just say get rid of the dog. That does not even
sound legal. Tell them to catch the ones who make the mess and don't clean
it up and tell them to get rid of their dogs. I would not give up so easy.

I agree, you should not give up without a fight. In the meantime, look for other apartments that are pet-friendly, and if you want to bring up your credit score charge small amounts on your credit card and pay them off fully. That will help bring it up. I can't imagine going through this, it must be awful!! It's great that 107Barney might know somebody who can help you (This is why YT is so great )

That's illegal too. Renter's have rights actually more than the land lord.

In LA as well. A landlord can come up with a bunch of crazy rules and the laws that protect tenants can pretty much void anything. The only problem I see is that in the eyes of the law, animals are property, not living breathing members of the family. In LA, there are no renter laws I know of to help people with pets. The laws only help people.

107barney's offer is still on the table. IF you truly do want to keep your pet, you certainly have nothing to lose and everything to gain by letting someone else help you out. I'm sorry, but the lease, as you described it, sounds off. That is just not typical of leases for rental properties. I find it a bit far fetched.

The thing that makes no sense to me is the landlord is, in effect, making alot of vacancies for himself. If alot of tenants move out, I wonder if he is assured that he can fill those apartments in a timely manner.

I live in an apartment and before I moved in I made sure my lease allowed for my dog. I paid an initial non-refundable pet deposit. If my landlord pulled something like this, there would be a tremendous amount of vacancies to fill.
When things get rough here, management sends out threatening letters that they will raise the rent of dog owners by $50/month if they don't clean up. Since I live two units away from the office, they see me walk my little one and know I clean up after her.

We also have alot of pet owners who police other pet owners to make sure the grounds are kept clean.

I hope your situation gets resolved. I know I could never give up my Yorkie. I'd find another place one way or another before I'd give her up.

I just sent you a PM and am willing to help you if you would like. It sounds to me like you are in a situation that you are not quite sure how to resolve or financially capable of changing. If you have thought rehoming him through and have come to the decision that he needs a new home that it fine~IMO and we all just need to move forward and stop trying to change your mind. There are plenty of members on YT that would be willing to offer him a home but I do not know if you will be able to find someone willing to pay your current price.

I really would like to help you.
