I always planned on having Jackson sleep in my bed so that's why I put the crate on the bed with me. I did the crate on the bed thing for maybe 3-4 weeks and then he was aloud to sleep on my bed, he's never had 1 accident. I got him at 9 weeks old. I wouldn't do it if you were planning on not having your dog sleep in your bed though because then you're just creating bad habits.

I brought my first yorkie home at 8 weeks old, Gigio sleep with me I did feed her very two hours made sure she had water and that was also all day because she had very low blood sugar. I like the idea of the crate with you in the bed. Petsmart has a bone with a sound of a heart beat or the baby store will have something simpler, would also take the furbaby out to a pee pad every time you let the furbaby out of the crate. having a furbaby this young, I think it needs to be feed very 2 hours. It like having a real baby. the night will go a little longer with the furbaby, so feeding will go longing. it take time.
good luck

LOL -- I should make it more clear... he's never had 1 accident on the BED. He's definitely had accidents in the house!

Why not put a newborn baby in a carrier and put it on the bed with you?? Oh it might fall off ???

I've had 4 children and 4 puppies and my common sense tells me not to put them on the bed!!

Sorry... jmo
Seriously? I see no need for the smarty pants reply! Why would I put a human infant in a dog carrier.. That makes NO sense, nor is it funny.. And it doesn't even compare since babies sleep in cribs, and last time I checked dogs were not human. A crate to a dog what a crib is to an infant.

It is fine if you don't agree with me, but there was no need for that!

The play pen is in my room but he still crys and wants to sleep in bed with me...He whines to be put down on the floor in the middle of the night because he wants to play so I do and he ends up peeing and pooping all over the floor. ANy suggestion on what I should do and if I should make him sleep in play pen of in bed with me?????

It is best to leave your puppy get used to sleeping alone. When we got Samy he cried like crazy the first night but we kept him outside the bedroom. We did not buy a play pen so he had a run of the room he was sleeping in but he got used to being on his puppy bed. The first week he would whine and cry after we turn off the lights and close the door but then he got used to it. Now when we turn off the light he knows to go to his bed and sleep. He is completely in the dark and does alright on his own. He knows where his pee pad is and his food and water are. He has a big room all to himself with toys and stuff

We decided that we do not want him in the bed because he would get injured either by us or by falling off... also I am allergic to dog's saliva but no allergic reactions yet because I keep him away from my bed. The female yorkie we were taking care of for a period of time would sleep in our bed because this is the way she was used to since she was young and I started having bad allergic reactions.. She would whine and cry if not in bed with us.. so it is really important that your puppy gets used to being on his own when you are not around.

It is very important not to pick him up when he cries and not to give in to his crying.

of course you're getting different answers - what works for one may not for another and everyone trains differently. Not everyone here knows that you have a 6-7 week old.

I see so many threads by you I'm getting confused but bolded in red where you had it right .... No puppy can make it thru the night at this age so you may as well start getting used to nights being interrupted. Most people don't get much sleep either when getting a puppy especially such a tiny breed

It is crazy to get a puppy so young... good luck with sleepless nights! And introduce him to other puppies or he will not know how to socialize with them.

My Ruby is 7 1/2 weeks old now and she had trouble the first two nights...I have her in my room (my room is her playpen ) and she has a little bed...at night I pull her bed close to mine and she usually sleeps...the first two nights she was crying and wanted to get on my bed but it's dangerous for her (she might be squished or she might fall off) so I'm not letting her. Also i'm slightly allergic so it's best if she stays off in the future too. As for the crying, yes she cried on the first two nights but eventually fell asleep in her bed and I covered her with her blanket...Now some nights she cries for about 5 minutes and then sleeps in her bed...She used to wake me up at night too but now she sleeps through the whole night!

As for the peeing, I suggest you cover half the room (preferably the carpet half!) with newspapers (or pee-pads) so he gets used to peeing on them etc...mine goes on the newspapers all the time and they're only in one corner of the room! And she's only 7-8 wks old!

Good Luck! But I really don't think you should sleeps with him at this age they're so small!!!

Great news. How much did he weigh?

As far as training. You have been given great advice. take what you need and make you own choice, that will be the right thing for YOU

Introducing this pup at such a young age without innoculations is a bit risky. This wee one has come with a special set of circumstances. His mother died, so there is a possibility he did not receive mother's immunities, therefore putting him at greater risk.
